Is it me, or does food just taste better now?

Recommended Posts

I'm finding that the more things I'm able to reintroduce to my diet, the better tasting they are. Today I had a small chili from Wendy's and it tasted SO GOOD! I've had it plenty of times pre-op and it was always 'okay' but nothing impressive. I ordered it today, one of the first things I've tried since I'm now on solids and WOW the flavor and everything was just so delicious LOL! I've found this with other foods too....weird?

Not weird! We went quite a while on liquids and now that the variety is back our taste buds are dancing like Gollum when he got the ring back.

Also before I was more concerned with filling up the abyss and not with savoring flavors.

Reminds me of a dog I had. You could throw him a piece of T-bone steak, a lobster tail, or an old hot dog, his reaction was the same. Gobble, gobble, gobble and look at you as if to say, "Anything else? I'm still hungry."

We definitely are able to decipher flavors now. It can be wonderful with great food but if you happen to get something greasy or ick then you will know it.

Food is important now. I want healthy tasty and power packed nutrients! I can't afford to just have something just to feed myself like before.

It's fun to be healthy :P

I know what you mean about those dogs! I have a couple pups and you are so right - throw 'em anything and it just goes straight down the hatch!

Nice reference to one of my favorite movies....."MY PRECIOUSSSSS"!! lol that was me with food!

Yes, so true! I haven't had any major issues yet....my friend told me a story about her first encounter with a tator tot after surgery....NOT GOOD!!!! LOL! Needless to say she's x'd those from her diet! I'm not even going to go there after how sick the grease made her. I learned from her experience it just isn't worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
