HELP! Need Endoscopy Information

Recommended Posts

I am going for an endoscopy the day before thanksgiving...it's routine but I have been told that my band has slipped slightly (or is it stretched) and I feel as if it will be worse when I go for my endoscopy. I had a bad flu incident and couldn't stop throwing up. What can I expect with an endoscopy...what happens if they find something wrong? Will it interfere with my thanksgiving? HELP!

Endoiscopy is a very fast procedure. you will most likely be lightly sedated. It is very quick and painless. It should not interfere with your Thanksgiving, even ifthey found out something was wrong they would notdo anything about it that day Iam sure. I had my endo and found out I was eroded and it was not until thefollowing week I had my band removed.

I had an endoscopy recently and the total charges came to about $1300. It was $800+ for the facility, which included the anaesthesiologist, and then something in the neighborhood of $500 for the doctor's services. It was covered by my insurance but with my plan my out of pocket was close to $700. It was considered to be in the same sort of category as out-patient surgery, since it wasn't done in a doctor's office and there was anaesthesia involved. Obviously your situation may be different.

Oh, and I was knocked out completely. It wasn't a long procedure, but I wasn't allowed to drive afterwards because of the general anaesthesia. I had to get a ride home and stay there for the rest of the day.

Wow that's more than I expected...they are just going to give me a pill for twilight sedation so hopefully it won't be that much money. Thanks for the info. Anybody have anything else to add?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
