I'm a week out from being sleeved an I was just wondering if any of you had problems with chewing gum (sugar free, of course)! Does it seem to fill your stomach up with air? It's been a life saver during this preop diet but just don't want to cause any problems postop :-) thanks!

I've chewed gum after surgery with no issue (I'm 3 months out but think I began with gum at around the 1 month mark) every surgeon is different, when in doubt ask!

I tried sugar-free when I was about 2-3 weeks out and have had no problems, can also do sugar-free mints.

My nut & doc said no gum because 1) can cause air bubbles in tummy & 2) you can accidentally swallow it and it can get blocked.

The reason gum is not allowed the first 6 weeks after surgery is because of the risk of accidental swallowing.
