Great information. I also feel for me it was important to clear my mind of any potential obstacles prior to the surgery. Preparation and knowledge are power.

I find that article and study interesting, but isn't it also true for non-bariatric patients? I just think its funny how they looked at it from that point of view, but I generally know it is true in general.

The researchers found that the more exercise the participants got, the less likely they were to have symptoms of anxiety or depression

The study also said 8 minutes a day or 1 hour a week minimum to shake the blues. Don't try to get your exercise in all in 1 hour a week. 3 times a week sounds better to me, at least a half hour a session each.

Your right about it being true for everyone but I would guess the study was probably funded by a bariatric department possibly to combat some of the negative studies about replacement addictions.

I saw this article too - it is a great message.... I have alot of anxiety (two kids with autism disorder pretty much sums up why :-))... and I drank alot of wine and took Lexapro prior to surgery.... after surgery, when they told me I had to crush up all my pills - I just stopped taking the Lexapro (I had to take 2 pills of this alone)... the docs (when I told them what I did) where not happy because your body is going through so much already - you just can't stop cold turkey - but I did :-)... now I'm 6 weeks post-op today and still haven't taken any Lexapro.... my pcp and I decided to see if my exercising would replace the need for meds and we are going to take a look at where I am in about a month from now.... I still have "issues" with my anxiety, and question my decision on coming off of Lexapro sometimes - but as I increase my exercise time, I think this is helping - I know they said 8 mins a day, but I'm probably not up to the "speed" yet they imply in that 8 minutes :-) I guess I'm doing my own "research" and study on this... we'll see but so far so good! p.s. I use a fitbit and am soooo addicted to it - this helps me get motivated to stay active!

The FITBIT and Myfitnesspal really work! I wear the fitbit religiously now. My colleague that sits in the office next to mine has motivated me, she works vigorously out every day and when I see her logs it makes me get off my but and work out.

I definitely understand where your coming from I have a autistic 10 year old fortunately my 5 year old is not autistic. I used to take celexa before surgery low dosage but my doctor and I decided to stop it just before surgery and I haven't had any problems since. I am 9 weeks out and down over 70 pounds. I do work out approx 1.5 hours usually 5 days a week.

Thank you for the article! This is a good motivator for me to work out, even if its just 10-15 minutes to start out. I'm glad there are benefits for such "little" activity.

2013me and Richardpoor I certainly tip my hat to you and if you don't mind i send my prayers as well. Autism can be quite stressful, I spent years as a school aide dealing with the condition in children. It was during that time that I was put on high blood pressure meds which I have recently kicked due to the sleeve. I was on celexa as well during that time and had a very hard time kicking it, not because it was addicting but because the withdrawal symptoms were a bear.

I have found exercise to be a major stress reliever. The better shape I get in, the better it works. Outside of dealing with the pain of sore muscles, (I am 64 after all), it is quite a positive in my life. Exercise seems to keep the shiny edge on my outlook.

I was on an anti-depressant for more than 10 years pre-surgery and stopped taking it after surgery (weaned off in the month prior) and haven't had to take them since. I hit the treadmill occasionally pre-op but now I'm at the gym 3-4 times a week and my mental health is so much better than it was even with the meds. Even with the winter blahs I don't feel like I need to go back on the anti-depressant. But I would if I needed to.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
