I know and remember that part well!

Someone here last night said that they thought that the pre- op diet was the hardest part...

Just know that it's only for a little while.

And remember how blessed you are to be given this opportunity!

I say that because I feel so lucky that I was able to do this when I see so many people that for whatever reason are obese and can't have this surgery.

You can do it :)

You really want to know?? I make my own chicken broth.. The canned stuff is yucky:o

I just buy a chicken and put it in a pot of Water with salt pepper and garlic ( I buy the frozen cubes a trader joes) cook for about an hour skimming the top once and a while. Take the chicken out cool the broth for a little while and skim some of the fat out, not to much though..

I shred the chicken off the bones and make dinners with it for the family (burritos, Soup, enchilada etc)

You asked Amy :P

Edit) short of that though a lot of people go to their favorite restaurant, buy their favorite Soup and ask for mostly broth and go home and strain it and drink.. Good idea I think

I started my pre-op diet today gearing up for the sleeve on the 26th. My doctor has me drinking 4 of the BariEssential shakes. I was so relieved to add the PB2, because I was struggling with just the Protein added to Almond Milk. It was too foamy for my liking.

I used to use a whole chicken but now I use mostly backs because they're cheap and give fantastic broth. I boil a bunch of chicken backs and leg quarters in a pot of Water with bay, onion celery and carrots, salt pepper and garlic cloves. Boil for 1 hour take the meat off the bones. save the meat for another use. return the bones and skin to the pot with veggies and simmer for 5 hours. Strain the broth but do not try to squeeze out the veg/bones just let the juice gently drain from them. refrigerate until it sets up. I scoop off ALL the hardened fat from the top. This makes quite a concentrated stock, I thin it down with water and add a little adobo seasoning (or garlic salt) before drinking. for a nice different flavor, I'll sometimes add a bit of ground sage.

How ever you make your broth, homemade broth is soooooooooo much nicer than canned!

BTW, if you've roasted chicken legs in the oven for your family, you can scrape all the drippings into a pot (especially the really sticky brown bits... TRUST ME on this one you want to scrape ALL of those fabulous drippings), and save the bones and add those to the pot too.. add some veggie scraps and boil for 5 hours. then skim the fat. The resulting broth is dark in color, but has an AMAZINGLY delicious taste

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
