Easy Way Out? Really?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on vst experienced someone telling them or heard anyone in conversation saying wls is an easy way out? I haven' t personally, but the other day someone posted a comment like that on one of my friends picture on insta gram. What an up roar that caused.

How can anyone say this is an easy way out, if they only knew the hell we've lived only to continue to be discriminated.

This is why I am so reserved and don't tell anyone what I'm having done. Its so sad this world still has insensitive people like that in it.

Just venting oh sigh!

Yes I had someone tell me this the other day. I just replied to them " it's not an easy way. It's a life style change. If we do not fallow through with what we have learned in our nutrition class we will not have the results we want. There is so much more behind wls than u will ever know so go educate yourself!" And I walked away.

Some of my family have said this to me, I just explained to them that I am tired of all the yo-yo dieting, and that this will help with that and if they don't like it don't let the door hit you on the way out.....

I've never been told this by someone so I honestly can't comment on how I reacted. I have a family reunion coming up in a couple months and I expect to hear it at least once there.

However.... I've done a lot of hard things in my life. I'm a successful 29 yr old man with a family and a career. If someone wants to call what I have done the "easy way out" then by all means I took the easy road for once!

9 times out of 10 the people that have said anything negative about my weight loss surgery have been fat. They are speakout out of either jealousy or fear.

The second instance is when people say "You're not eating enough" or "You're losing weight to fast" to which I simply respond "Did you really just say that?" and look at them like they're totally stupid.

I don't know about y'all but this is one of the hardest "diets" I've done! It's by far not an easy way out. I'm 9 days pre op on a 20 day diet of mostly liquids, and when I got my post op instructions yesterday I wanted to cry. I KNEW what was was going to be on that paper, but it was seeing it in print and it made me furious. A week of only Water and juice after surgery? I wanted to throw my phone across the room lol. I want something solid dangit and I dont want to wait several more weeks! It's a change both mentally and physically, and I still haven't wrapped my brain all the way around the fact I probably won't want to eat that first week. Life is going to be different, and it probably won't fully hit me until that day.

Now, with that being said, I cried, pouted, got mad, and got over it--crunching on a SF popsicle lol. Ya just got to do it. Walk a mile in our shoes and then tell me it's the easy way out.

I completely agree! I have only told a few people about my surgery. I did tell my husband if anyone ever told me I took the easy way out they had better duck and run after or get ready to meet my fist. There is nothing easy about this decision. I went thru so many emotions, feeling a failure because I had to resort to such drastic measures, being scared that if I didn't go thru with it I would be dead from heart failure in a few years or become diabetic, being scared that if I did go thru with it I could die on the operating table. I went thru ins so I had all kinds of tests and waiting periods to be approved and that causes stress. Yeah, its been sooo easy! Ive been overweight my whole life and had tried everything on my own to get the weight off and this has been the only thing that has worked for me.

And since when is major surgery, removing 85% of your stomach an easy way out? I'd like to know what dream world they're living in to have such a thought. And why they feel the need to say it in the first place? So they feel better than you because they never had to take the "easy way out". Walk a mile in my shoes!

Sorry, it just frustrates me too I guess :)

I've heard it before and thought it myself. ( before researching) Maybe it is an easier way for some, maybe it isn't. I don't pay attention to it. I had surgery to finally be healthy, not to worry about what other people think. Be confident in your decision and you don't need to answer to anyone.

Artsong you made me giggle lol. However it does infuriate me when ignorant people always have to put their 2 cents in everything. I would tell them put those 2 cents where the sun don't shine and keep moving.

I made the mistake of telling a so called friend oh my what a mistake.

Friend: what do you mean wls like getting your stomach cut? Why you don't need that. All you need to do is control your diet exercise and you will be fine.

Me: You dont understand I have been dieting exercising on and off all my life. I lose then gain then lose then gain. Do you have any idea how much strain that is putting on my body?

Friend: I just can't understand why you would think doing something so drastic can benefit you. You can die, lose your hair, have lose skin is it worth it?

Me: Is it worth me living a life of insecurities of constant imprisonment low energy high cholesterol. I was looking for support in you.

Friend: I'm totally against it and I will try my best to talk you out of it. This is not for you.

To make a long story short she knows my surgery is tomorrow is calling me constantly and I'm ignoring all her calls is this wrong just don't need the negativity right now. I almost feel like telling her I'm not doing it just to get her off my back. Ugh why did I open my mouth.

Yeah people can really suck it. I was told that crap by a few distant family members out of spite and jealousy. Cause it is oh so easy to have a life threatening surgery and deal with the pain that follows the near 5 to 6 week liquid diet. Hell I would like one person to just do a liquid diet for a month and not cheat not crave food and not cry. Such BS really. I said oh well to those negative ppl. Surround yourself with positive and postive will become your new lifestyle. But seriously I want one more person to tell me it is easy I will probably get locked up for assault lol. Jk good luck to all of you wahoo two more weeks until purees already been on liquids for nearly a month.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
