salsha 114 Posted February 19, 2013 When I started my pre-op diet 10 days ago my BMI was almost 47. I was hoping to drop below 45 to save some extra money on my surgery and today I weighed in and have lost exactly 10 lbs which dropped my BMI to 44.99!! I'm thrilled! My liquid diet starts today so hopefully I can lose a few more just to make sure I stay below until surgery on Friday.
leeann71 539 Posted February 19, 2013 Congratulations on your first nsv. You can do this, it might get a little frustating in the begining but you will lose a few more pounds. Soon you will be on the sleeve side and on you way to a healthier you. :-)

Having that full feeling quicker will be a real saving grace for me. Right now I rarely feel hungry or starving so i started asking myself why couldn't i just keep this up and avoid the surgery but once in awhile that emotional hunger creeps in and I realize why. At least with the sleeve I won't be able to eat uncontrollably when that happens.

scsleever 104 Posted February 19, 2013 Congratulations, Salsha! You are doing a great job...keep up the good work! I know what you mean about those thoughts that creep in and say "Look how well you are doing with your food plan...you are losing weight...do you really need surgery?" But that is just my fear raising it's clever little head. My whole life has shown that I can stay on a food plan and lose weight..FOR AWHILE. Then something happens and I am off to the races with food, usually gaining back all the weight plus a few pounds more. I did my preop weigh-in this morning (I leave for Tijuana tomorrow morning) and have lost 15 lbs in about 12 days, so I know that I've now dropped that extra Water weight and my post-op numbers will be a little less stunning in the first few weeks. I am on the road to a healthier life and have made it to the first guidepost!

At least we finally know ourselves and challenges well enough to step up to the plate and get the help we need. I'm definitely planning on starting some sort of therapy sessions after which will hopefully also help in letting go of emotional hunger, I think it's an integral part of my battle. Whenever I'm stressed I do one of two things (or both) shop and eat. Secretly I'm looking forward to the stress shopping when I can wear nice clothes though!
