4 days post op and my mind is blown

Recommended Posts

My first post here. I've been reading a lot though and these forums helped finalize my decision so thank you!

My story is pretty simple... always been fat. born 12 lbs, 24" long. I don't have one memory stored of looking down and not seeing a belly.

After years of depression and excuses and up and down I decided I had to do something drastic.

I was sleeved by doctor Aceves on Feb 14.

My weight the day before my surgery was 445 lbs. I actually carried my 400+ quite well which is probably why I let it go on for so damn long...

Today, I'm already down to 432 lbs.

I did not expect things to go this fast. I already notice a difference in my energy level and happiness, it's absolutely incredible. I'm finally realizing what my diet was doing to me.

I'm not expecting this to be easy in the least but I'm extremely surprised that four days out I already feel like this.

Only real issues I have had at all is just a little bit of soreness that only really shows itself when I move, cough, bend, apply pressure etc.

I have no desire at all to eat. The past two days I fill up a huge glass with ice and drink Isopure and that's it. I can handle about 1.5 bottles of the stuff but watered down. Today I took down about 120 oz of the Isopure/water mix so I guess that's 30 oz of iso and 90 oz of Water. I feel full and satisfied. Although my brain is still thinking about all my old addictions. I actually dreamt last night that i was eating good food and woke up freaking out thinking I had hurt myself by doing so....

Anyway just wanted to say hi and report my progress so far. I'm so suprised at how this has gone so far it is not what I expected.

12 pounds at birth! Your mother has my respect.

Welcome to the forums, Brian. I'm newish myself. I had my surgery on February 6th, and am also impressed and very pleased with the results so far. Having surgery is such a drastic step, but rewarding too. You are doing an incredible job on the liquid intake. I can only aspire to do so well. You've made me decide to try even harder to get all of my Water in.

Please keep posting!

If you are doing Isopure, I reccomend just keeping a huge cup of crushed ice at your side all day and just sipping at it all day.

I'm able to finish 4 huge cups of the water/iso mix, but i literally never stop sipping. Stay full this way too

Man, you and I come from so similar backgrounds. My mom had me at 11.8lbs, 2nd biggest baby that day in Texas, lost out to a female, sigh. I was 464 at my heaviest and was able to get down to where I am now, about 350 +/- 2 pounds. I never worried about my weight, I never saw it as an issue. I was able to go places and do things all the same, except fit in rides at six flags, etc, which really sucked. I'm glad everything is going well for you bud, hopefully I'll have the same success after the 26th.

thanks guys. and yes mark we do have similar backgrounds.

still rocking the isopure/water all day, still not too hungry.. although my addiction to food is still there. Had to deal with being around good smelling food at work today.. wasn't too bad. every fast food joint i drive by i still think about my old friends :)

3 more lbs lost today. feeling so energetic. accomplished more today than I have probably in the last two months. Took a nice walk too :)

Wow, that's a great attitude to have on day 4, I hope the rest of your journey continues in this positive light. I'm a fellow Aceves sleever, I was sleaved Jan. 5 and I certainly was not quite as "glass half full" as you on day 4. Today I know this was the best gift I've ever given myself! Keep up the great work and I'm jealous of your liquid intake!

I will be sleeved March 6. I keep seeing people talk about Isopure. What is it and where do I get it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
