SF Jello and SF Gatorade?

Recommended Posts

I'll be starting my pre-op diet tomorrow and have a quick question. Is it ok to eat "red" sugar free Jello or are we to stay away from anything red in color?

I'm on my pre-op diet and I wasn't told to stay away from "red" SF Jello. Why do you think we should stay away from "red"?

Pre and post op, I could eat anything on the list I was given. It listed sugar free Jell-O, with no restrictions on the flavor or color. All they cared about was that I ate foods low in carbs.

I was eating sugar free cherry Jell-O and sugar free popsicles - red, orange, green, and purple.

Be careful post-op though, my stomach didn't like either one of those after surgery - or sugar free Gatorade. My stomach does not like sugar alcohols or sucralose now.

Crystal Light and splenda, I have no problems with.

Red because when they actually do the surgery, if there happens to be anything in the stomach or intestine, they want to know it isn't blood leaking out if they're testing for leakage or.. whatever. (My surgeon didn't give me any restrictions other than clear liquid diet prior to surgery either, but this may be what she's referring to)

It's also in case you vomit it could be mistaken for blood.

I too was told no red or purple liquids. It can be mistaken for blood by the Dr during surgery.

And that was only for the 24 hours prior to surgery. During my 2 week preop liquid diet is could drink and eat any color. But that day before no red or purple according to my surgeon.
