I'M SICK AND I'M HAVING SURGERY IN 7 DAYS! HELP!

Recommended Posts

I'M ACTUALLY REALLY CONCERNED THAT THEY WONT ALLOW ME TO HAVE SURGERY ON MY SCHEDULED DAY (MONDAY FEBRUARY 25TH). I HAVE SOME CHEST CONGESTION, A BIT OF A SORE THROAT, AND SOME COUGHING. ON THURSDAY I WENT TO MY SURGEON'S OFFICE AND I HAD A FEVER OF 99.7 AND YESTERDAY I HAD A FEVER BETWEEN 99.1 AND 99.4, ITS MILD BUT DAMMIT I DONT WANT TO BE RESCHEDULED

DO YOU THINK THEY'LL RESCHEDULE MY SURGERY IF MY COUGH AND SORE THROAT DONT GET BETTER BUT THE FEVER STOPS? HELP HELP HELP!

Why not go to urgent care and see if you can get an antibiotic since you are running a fever. This way it has time to work before next week. it's worth a try.

That is what I did. I went to my primary care doc and got meds and was fine by the date of my surgery. Good luck!

I was sick too. I asked the anesthesiologist on day of surgery and he said I was good to go if I didn't have a fever.

Thanks everyone! i spoke to my surgeon's office today and basically he wants to switch me for the next available date. His receptionist is a doll and said that she'll keep me on for monday and she'll call me these next few days to see how i'm feeling. i'm trying to stay optimistic about getting sleeved on monday. My pcp wants me to go see her tomorrow afternoon hopefully she can give me some antibiotics.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
