HoosierGirl 780 Posted March 10, 2013 Hey fellow Hoosiers! Vincennes in the mix here too! I self paid in Mexico due to insurance denial. Pretty pleased with the whole experience and the weight loss has been fantastic. Heard great things about the IU Bariatric group. Good luck to you!
TheGamer 406 Posted March 10, 2013 Indiana here, too. Very far south Indiana, but technically within state lines. I'm closer to Louisville than anything else, though, so I actually had my surgery done across the river at Baptist East.

BryJohn 72 Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks HoosiersGirl. I went to VU back in 91/92. I had some fun and wild times down there.
MrsGina 101 Posted March 12, 2013 I'm from a small town called DeMotte, in. Was sleeved on Jan 22 and am finally feeling alive again. Now everyone's surgery goes textbook. Had my surgery done by IU bariatric, IU North was the hospital, Dr. Selzer was my surgeon. The surgery and hospital were great, the infection 3 days later was a bummer. They did take good care of me though.

zacben 10 Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks HoosiersGirl. I went to VU back in 91/92. I had some fun and wild times down there. I'm sure we had mutual friends, I visited VU a lot while I attended ISU. I had a lot of fun there too! I dated a boy from there for a long time.

Straight shot up 65 from Louisville. If we do any healthy shopping we have to hit ip Clarksville or the Rainbow Blossom in New Albany
VSG4aHealthierMe 6 Posted March 15, 2013 IU Bariatric Are you seeing Dr. Ditslear? Or is there another surgeon at IU that does the VSG? If so who is your surgeon and what is your impression of them? I am currently looking for a surgeon so any info is helpful
Hemlock99 6 Posted March 15, 2013 I'm seeing Dr. Evanson and he's great. He is at IU and St. Vincent both. I get along with him well and he's pretty passionate about weight loss surgery and his patients. He also used to be a trauma surgeon, so that's a plus for me. It's always good to know your surgeon can take the heat if things get sticky! What lead you to him? Did you pick him after exhaustive research, because of location and/or hospital affiliation, insurance reasons or something else? I am hoping I can pick my surgeon but I am not sure how it all is works with insurance. I am applying for HIP because I don't have insurance since we can't afford $600/month from a high risk insurance company (who could?). I am fairly certain I will qualify but its yet so be seen.... then I have to qualify for the surgery... so basically I am not even to square 1 yet but I want to learn all I can about my option. I am hoping they let me choose but I don't know if they will.
Hemlock99 6 Posted March 15, 2013 Basically, I've been researching for 8 years and I personally work with so many Drs that I listen to their feedback as well. I was actually set on someone else and he was my 2nd choice until I went to the meeting and he was the Dr that spoke. He just clicked with me. You should b able to pick your own Dr no matter which type of insurance you have. You may have to.go to a specific practice, but a practice usually has more than 1 Dr. As far as I'm aware all of the Indpls. hospitals would take it, but you'll have to make sure when you get approved and you may or may not be subject to a longer waiting period, again depends on your plans criteria. My WLS journey has been on hold for so long that what's another few months.
