Hey everyone' date=' I need some advice/help plz!!! :). My surgeon no longer goes to IU, he's only at St V now. IU has a very intense program pre surgery, which I'm doing well on. However, I really love my Dr. If I go to St V, it will be out of network and more , but I think I'm willing to pay for my surgeon vs IU's program. I'm nervous that if St V program isn't as intense, that I won't do as well in the long run. Thoughts, advice???[/quote']

I went through StV. They are great...they are very strict and do require a lot. I'm only 18 days out but doing good. I think IU has a pre ot diet and StV does not. Which I was glad about. I think most of yor stuff will transfer over with your Dr. You said it ay cost more.....I just got my hospital and surgery bill and it was almost $39,000.00.

Good luck.

It will be out of network, but st least still.covered, so I'm ok doing it. As long as my insurance doesn't have something hiding I'm going to switch.

Congratulations on your date! So close! IU makes you do a liver reduction diet' date=' which is literal, and loose weight prior to surgery in addition to the 2-3 group mtgs and NUT appt per month. They drill and drill the stuff in your head so intensely. It could be just my take on it though. It's not bad, I'm just always going to a mandatory meeting if some kind.[/quote']

Same at StV. Just no liver diet...they said they did a study and just didn't find enough difference to warrant the diet. Lots of mandatory meetings. I think that's good.

I understand! Mandatory is more motivating than non-mandatory! St Vincent's is more what you make of it. NUT and groups available and recommended

Hey Stacy....good look. I think you will do great. I've done so well that I question if they really did anything to me..lol.

Hi! I'm from New Haven IN - am having surgery July 30th in Mexicali, Mexico. Does anyone from Fort Wayne know if Lutheran Hospital has a Bariatric Support group. Being self-pay I don't have to go through all the pre-surgery hoops. It would be nice to have a group locally.

Did they use the davincci on you?

I'm not sure if they did or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
