imworthit 156 Posted February 18, 2013 I am wondering what drinks do you guys drink after surgery? I had a baybreeze and had the worst gas pains!!
johnlatte 1,232 Posted February 18, 2013 I gave up drinking all together. Didn't need the empty calories or the "gas pains". Maybe others aren't going that route, but it is the best choice for me. Don't need to drink to have a good time, and was a regular at the bar, but now I would rather just not.
VSGKirk 855 Posted February 18, 2013 No cocktails for me either. I still go out occasionally, but do not find I need to drink to have a good time. It's surely not as wild and uninhibited, but wild and uninhibited got me to 350+lbs and miserable. I do have a wine tasting trip planned about 5 months out - but even then, we'll see! I'll be more interested in the cheese I think!

keldolbeth 262 Posted February 18, 2013 Wow, ok. Well she didn't ask IF you were drinking. She asked those who are drinking what they prefer to drink. If you don't agree then don't post. Preaching or off-subject opinions are not needed. Keep it to yourself and keep moving. I don't get why people feel the need to post at all if they have no valuable input to the topic. Anyway, I did my research when I was dieting pre-op and one of the lowest carb drinks is vodka soda. For me, the taste isn't that great so I will add a splash of cranberry juice or try to bring my own Crystal Lite packets for flavor. I've been sticking to that or wine. My NUT recommended it as generally the lowest carb/calorie drink. I used to be a big beer drinker but I cannot tolerate it anymore. Even almost 8 months out I cannot do the carbonation. I do get an occasional craving but I don't miss it that much though. My doctor's guidelines were no alcohol for six months. I did pretty well with it, just a few exceptions. I talked to my NUT about it because I was hosting my BFF's bachelorette party at four months out. She said the main reason they say that is not only because of the empty calories but because you tend to make poor eating decisions when you are drinking. That can be what you choose to eat or grazing or drinking when eating. So just be mindful and do your research!

fyre_storm 1,412 Posted February 18, 2013 Anyway I'd say get a mix drink without carbonation. Maybe it was the citrus in the bay breeze which is one of my fav pre op that made your tummy hurt. Try a regular screw driver. I can't see that being overly zestful.

NurseGrace 509 Posted February 18, 2013 I think its fine for people to give their opinions on alcohol, the subject at hand, no one was mean about it. I have been asked to not drink for a year, and I plan to stick with that, but if I WERE going to drink I would probably have vodka and cranberry, or a cape cod, which is just vodka, cran, and lime. This is a "public" post on a "public" forum if you don't like what someone has to say skip it and move on. If your going to mention staying on target and not preaching, don't use 25% of your post to preach and stay off target.
