Want2befree 0 Posted February 18, 2013 I started the process for wls over 3 years ago. Did 6 months nutritional counseling, 5 year weight history, preop tests, etc. After working my butt off to loose some weight and meet the requirements I was denied. My OB's office had erroneously made me 100 lbs lighter 3 years earlier. I had my OB write a letter, no luck in changing the denial. I lost 45 lbs in that 6 month period with the help of weight loss meds and exercise. I went in to a bit of a depression after the denial and of course gained the weight back plus some. I have always been overweight, though after having 3 children my weight was out of control. For the last 9 years I have weighed in the upper 200's to low 300. January of 2012 I started a workout routine and lost 55 lbs. I stalled for 4 months and then gave up, to regain it all once again. The biggest discouragement was that many did not notice my loss. I have come to the decision that I need the tool to help me along. I have researched the sleeve and feel it is the best fit. I aim to have surgery with dr.joya in Mexico. I do have many concerns but know it is my brain working overtime. I plan on paying my deposit by the end of the month. I would love any words of wisdom. salsha 114 Posted February 18, 2013 Hi Erin! I'm new here as well, you can read my story on my profile... if you have time - it's long winded. lol I actually live in Puerto Vallarta and hear that Dr. Joya is an amazing surgeon. A lady that pretty much everyone in town knows because of her involvement in the health community had her surgery done by him some years ago and she says it was the best choice of her life. I myself am actually going to TJ for surgery this week with Dr Kelly... seems weird that I'd go there with such qualified surgeons in my town but it still works out cheaper for me and I really feel good about Dr Kelly. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck!
SMO 193 Posted February 18, 2013 Probably this is a silly question, but don't you have 5 years of accurate weight records to go back to the insurance company with now? Or are you just so ready that you don't want to mess with the 6 month thing again? I totally get that. It is great that you are so committed to have this done. I am 13 days post op. I had to wait two years from when I decided to have wls for my insurance to start covering it. It was very hard to wait.

Yes I would at this point but I have different insurance now and WLS is not covered. And if i did have coverage I would wait 6 months.
