Recommended Posts

I never dreamed I would actually be sitting here saying it has been 2 years since my sleeve and I have never been happier....except for the excess skin...my only negative, but I will take it!! The swimsuit pic is my step-daughter and me 2 years after surgery... the other is my husband and I 2 months after my surgery. Lets hear and see some other great post-op stories!!

Awesome work! You look amazing! Congrats on your weight loss! :)

I hope I reach goal soon and go into maintenance. I realize its going to take a lot of hard work and patience from my side to shed this last 20+ lbs. Do you have any tips? Did you do anything special when you were close to goal? How do you feel in the maintanence phase? Did you have any ups and downs or have you been maintaining pretty much at goal? Would love to learn from a veteran like you! :)

I know the excess skin issue is totally personal - but if mine looked like your's does in the picture, I'll be thrilled! I have HORRIBLY saggy skin in my arms and thighs. Around my belly - it is somewhat tolerable, but the stretch maks are awful! I'll be getting an arm and thigh life in a month or so (fingers crossed!). I'll get a Tummy Tuck a year later, probably.

I have found I hide it better with a tan....lol To be honest, my goal was 145. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get there, let alone to where I am at. I don't think my dr. did either :) I don't know if I do it "right", but I have pretty much given up red meat. I eat Soups, minimal chicken, fish, baked veggies and drink lots of Water. I do not "think" about food, eating out is a waste of money, especially when you can't find healthy options (and the salads they serve are NOT always heathy!) I have learned that quantity is my downfall...I eat 1 to 2 cups 3x per day. I snack on fruits and veggies whenever I think I am hungry and never deny myself "food". I still do not tolerate milk products which is good because I loved ice cream and cheese. I used to buy butter like crazy...I now buy 1 lb every 4 months. I bake veggies with olive oil and seasonings like crazy!!! Other than that, I keep very busy at work and like to go to the water parks and swimming. Glad I live in Texas for that!

I dont eat red meat either. The only staples in my diet are milk, chicken and fruits. I like veggies and try to add veggies atleast twice a day in my meals. Mostly, it is just chicken, fish or fruits. I cant live without milk :)

My fear is about carbs. It was hard to learn to stay away from useless carbs, and switch on to more fibrous variety (to be honest, I'm still learning this). I haven't had ice cream since after the surgery. I let myself have a tiny bite of chocolate every now and then (maybe once a week). But my only weakness now seems to be milk rusks and Cookies. This past week alone, I have had three Cookies. Though the pieces were small, I sensed the same pattern of reaching for sweets after dinner. Once I realized that, I stopped opening 'that' cupboard in the kitchen LOL!

You look fabulous!! Thanx for sharing, it's great to see that after 2 yrs the sleeve still works!! I keep hearing everyone say "Well, so and so had the lap band or Roux-en-Y and gained 1/2 their weight back".....or......"they never got to goal and started gaining again". I just know that it's a tool, and we have to realize that and work with it. What a great inspiration you are to all of us, thanx again!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
