Oh the craving for crunch!

I am on day 9 of a 20 day preop diet consisting of Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt, broth, and SF Jello and popsicles. I've lost 13 lbs which is great. I'm trying really hard not to complain because it could be worse and I could be on full liquids or only Protein Drinks, but...I'm on burnout. I'd kill for just a salad, a cucumber, something with substance and crunch! In November, I kicked a 15 year habit of smoking cold turkey. During that time I munched on baby pickles when I got a craving for one. When I traveled I ate sunflower seeds. I thought i was over it, but now that I can have very little I want a cigeratte, a big Dr Pepper, and the right side of the menu from the burger place down the street! (ok, i really want the whole menu) I don't know why today is so hard, but I've just stayed in bed and slept since yesterday afternoon. I'm fighting caffine, nicotine, and every food craving imaginable. Any suggestions? How did you make it through?

I am right there with you quit smoking Saturday, a40 year habit. My surgery date is March 6th.I am ready to get this over with. I am taking chantix, I think it is helping. Also I am bi polar I can't really even count how many pills I take now.

I like the idea of chew and spit, wonder if you get high amount of carbs doing this.

Please don't "chew and spit."

It's true that chewing starts the digestive process. Even if you spit a food out, your saliva has already begun to break down the sugars.

People who chew and spit out food can end up with dental problems, including cavities and gum disease. Chewing food also signals stomach acids to kick in, ready to do their job of digesting food. But without the actual food to digest, this may cause stomach problems.

Some calories in the food you chew will be absorbed into your body how many depends on the type of food, how long the food is in your mouth, and how much you might swallow. What's interesting is that many people who chew and spit food end up gaining, not losing, weight. Why? Experts don't know for sure, but it's likely that people who try too hard to restrict calories or certain foods end up compensating by overeating later. And, depending on how often you chew and spit, your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs.

Chewing and spitting out food is a sign of disordered eating. A habit like this may not sound serious, but chewing and spitting out food can be the start of unhealthy attitudes toward food and may be part of a more serious eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia.

It's best not to think of certain foods as "forbidden." Instead, eat a food in moderation rather than eating lots of it but spitting it out. There's nothing wrong with treating yourself to the occasional indulgence — especially because you are so active and a healthy eater in general.

I'm with you. It was tough, but it's in the bag...you got this! It's only been four months since I quit and it's almost weird to think I used to smoke. I can smell it now from 20 paces, and it makes me nauseous! Who would have thought lol

Oh my, studies here in Australia show Champix is unsafe if you already suffer any form of depression or are taking medication for such. Take care with that, I hope it goes really well for you

I forgot to add, I tried to give up in the few weeks before my surgery, I went quite well then the nerves got too much and I smoked the last few days up to my surgery.

The funny thing was, I never thought about having a smoke while in hospital, was in for six nights and my sleeve just didn't want to have that ciggy. I think I was lucky, I'm three months out now and I have had a few in the past couple weeks until I started to feel very ill and get gallbladder problems. I still feel quite off but I don't want a smoke, if you can make it without them, please don't make the mistake of saying "I'll just have one to be social etc" that thought got me right in and I'm lucky my tummy feels so horrible now and I don't want it.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
