Does anyone take anything to help them go to the bathroom (#2)? I heard dulcolax but I am not sure if it would do more harm then g old. Let me know. Thanks !

Hello,

I have had the same problems. They told me to drink milk of magnesium.

In addition since I have to take 3 Iron pills a day, I take a stool softener and fiber gummies!

Ummm Yes and no - you do not want to make yourself laxative dependent, so I do not really think you should be taking them on any sort of daily basis but I do have both dulcolax and milk of mag in my bathroom and I tend to take the milk of mag maybe twice a week if things are not working themselves out if you know what I mean. The dulcolax was left over from my pre-op bowel prep but I might take that if things were really bad.

I will admit I do use the milk of mag the day or night before my weigh ins because if I dont I usually cannot get an accurate weigh in because I cant use the bathroom on que like I used to be able too and that just comes from not eating a lot.

Do those make you feel bloated? Do they make you go in the AM? I have been considering picking those up

I rarely use milk if mag , as for the fiber and stool softener I do daily as I am anemic and take lots I fiber which makes your stool horrible.. Everything was approved by my doctor until my Iron levels improve.

Seems everyone has the same problem. Iron or B12 or both. The Constipation duo. Have to take something a couple times of week or just get worse be the day no matter how much fiber or fruit. Everone is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
