Had surgery on the 12th.... Haven't been able to go #2 since the 11th ( a week tomorrow). Yesterday I had tea with Miralax in it and still nothing... Anyone else have or had this problem? What can I do!? :-(

Also remember that you're eating much less than normal. At this point you may even still be clear liquid only. My understanding is that it's not uncommon for things to er... slow down in that department simply because we're not really eating a lot.

I was home 5 days and hadn't gone. I got Equate chewable Fiber Supplement fruit flavored tablets. I chew two of them every day and I have been going every day or every other day since.

Chia seeds are truly helpful-- thanks to OTR for this recommendation! You can search "chia seeds" and there's tons of info on this forum.

My surgical PA recommended Miralax as well. Of course now I caught a stomach virus and no longer need it! :(

Oh man, I feel you on this. I went through about three days of hell. I started upping my fluids and taking 2 stool softeners a day. It finally happened. It actually took 3 or 4 times for it to finally be over. ( this lasted over those days) try not to strain. Since this happened I've been taking those fiber tabs ( surgar free). I went yesterday with no issues. Then a few hours later I went again but it was very loose. ( a nice change). I will be adjusting how much fiber I take until I can find a good middle ground.

I had surgery on the 12th too! :) My doctor said it could take a week to go. I finally went today but it was extremely difficult and extremely painful! I highly recommend that you take a stool softener as soon as possible. I think we are still so dehydrated as well as the fact that we have no substance in our tummies. Hope that helps.....

The Constipation is ridiculous. Like, in the sense of never before have I been constipated liked this. Ground up some exlax and have tried that unsuccessfully. Will try Milk of Magnesia.

Yep I've resorted to a stool softener every day..

And I'm three months out. It's always been an issue with me so this had just made it a bit worse.

When you are a bit more out make sure you get a little bit of veggies in everyday and some people here take chia seeds everyday. Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
