Ideas to flavor plain Greek yogurt

Recommended Posts

I currently use sugar-free pudding and want to try unsweetened cocoa powder and stevia drops, but can't think of anything else! I see some use Torani, too. Anybody have other ideas?

Not sure if it is just in the beginning or what but my Doc told me to avoid Greek yogurt. I wonder why

Add Mio, whatever flavor you like, to plain yogurt, it's tasty!

Hmm... that is odd. It was on my list of foods from week 3 on.

I bought some unflavored Greek yogurt to use in making chicken salad or tuna salad, in place of mayo, but haven't tried it yet. Greek yogurt has twice the Protein of other yogurts but its hard to find ones that ate low in carbs. the best I've had is the Oikos Caramel Greek Yogurt. it has 10g protein, 17g carbs and 0 fat and 110 calories.

The Kirkland brand at costco has 10g of carbs for 8 oz., 24g of protein, and the price is very reasonable compared to others. It's less than $7 for two 32 oz. containers!

I did read somewhere that people add kool aid to it to flavor it. Without the sugar I am assuming.

I bet that's tasty, though I'd like to avoid sugar.

You can use some SF jam (or even non-SF for the small amounts used) to flavor the plain greek yogurt.

I typically make a blend of plain yogurt, naturally sweetened vanilla yogurt (about a 3-1 ratio now), vanilla extract and a little SF sweetener to taste - small calorie increase over plain yogurt without the aftertaste problems of the SF sweeteners (particularly in the commercial SF flavored yogurts that go for overkill in the sweetness department.)

You used to be able to buy the kool aid powder and had to add the sugar so you may be able to get the flavor packets without the sugar and use them to flavor the yogurt.

I know this sounds crazy, but I've used nectar Protein powder to flavor Greek yogurt.

Or honey.

Whoops! This was supposed to quote the PB2 suggestion. Yes, there is definitely sugar-free Kool-Aid mix; I'll check it out - thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
