surgery was feb 13 and I can't tell if I am full?

Recommended Posts

I am new here and just had surgery on feb 13. I was wondering when the pain goes away and how you can tell if you are full with all of the pain. Also anyone that had a drain put in did it hurt to have it taken out?

I will not lie the drain is a quick hurt, like a punch in your side. But you will be relieved when it is out!! Are you taking any pain mess? I was given a liquid pain med called roxicet. It definitely helped at home and I haven't needed it for the past week. I have not pressed the issue of fullness. I follow the limits for intake given by my surgeon. It will hurt if you take in too much. Could this be the pain you are talking about? Good luck!

I thought the drain coming out was the worst part of this process. HOWEVER, in retrospect I think the physicians assistant that pulled it out did NOT release the suction so it was pulling my insides out when she was pulling it. So just make sure they open that valve!

As far as your other pain, everybody is different so it is hard to predict your level of pain and how long it will last when pain is subjective.

For the feeling of fullness, I am not sure I have the hang of it yet, just eat about 2 oz of food slowly and see if you feel ok with it...I can eat about 4ounces now and I do feel full (same sensation as before surgery) but it took awhile to know when I was full.

Hi I was the 13th too...the gas pain for me went away yesterday but today is the first day I am able to hold Clear liquids down because thurs and fri I threw them up... Just got the drain taken out a few hours ago and it's not so much painful but a really weird sensation but it only lasts for a few seconds and then you should be good. I have had drains in the past but the dr told me these kind of drains are deeper inside than drains from plastic surgery procedures. Are u still in the hospital?

You have only been sleeved for three days. You should be on Clear Liquids at this point so you should not be worried of a "full" feeling yet. You need to be sipping your liquid all day long.

Thanks for all the replies I am out of the hospital and have been trying to get in all of the liquids that the dr. recommends. I am just afraid of drinking to much and being in pain. I feel alright so far but I can't wait to get this drain out because I feel like that may be some of the discomfort.

I was put on pain meds and also told I could take tylenol. I do feel like it is helping but I just can't wait to not have any pain. I guessed its more annoying then anything.

I have not had any pain, but I don't have a drain like most people on here. I do have some discomfort in my lower abdmomin, which kind of remind me of hunger pains. I also have tons of the "stomach gurgling", but I'm not concerned about that. I am also concerned about not being able to tell when I am full so I'm following the diet very strictly. For me, I guess as long as I don't feel like I am starving, then I'm probably doing ok, especially since I'm just on the full liquid diet part of this process.

Try drinking out of 1 oz cups (like the medicine cups) use it 6 times an hour to keep hydrated. I had to do and RECORD this till my first post op visit. It did work and was very easy. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
