I want the real story

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for March 7th. I plan on running the 1/2 marathon at Disney World this November 2013. Is it realistic to think I will be ready to run it by then. I heard its the balance between getting the calories in and the energy it takes to run. Who has started a solid running schedule the first 9 months after surgery. Everyone else I know did not start working out the first year.

I think it is a little early to run 1/2 marathon at that time. You probably won't start running seriously until month 5. That will be august 2013. That leaves you 3 months to go from couch to 1/2 marathon. That seems really ambitious to me but maybe you could do it. Just being realistic about it. I do not know how long it takes to train in order to run 1/2 marathon. Some of the other runners on this board might know.

Hi! I ran my first half at six months post op. I was sleeved in march and ran it in sept. i didnt set out to do it that way, it just happened. I signed up for the tinkerbell half in July concerned on whether or not id be able to do it in January. I started doubg 5ks and then transitioned to 10ks. A local half was going on a Sunday- my friends and i signed up that Friday. It was amazing. I was able to run the entire distance. Who knew?!

I was not a runner presleeve. I'd try and then was sidelined due to overuse injuries- that and just being too heavy for my joints. :( anythings possible. I didn't start having difficulties with injuries or strains until I started using the treadmill. I struggle every now and then with hip flexor pain, so now I just stay off the treadmill and it has made a world of difference.

I'm sure I need to be careful. I did run the 1/2 at Disney in Nov of 2012 and did awesome. I hurt my knees just to much weight still. I weighed 217 at the time. I quit running after that and started eating like a pig again. So many yo yos. Thats why I want to do the surgery. I want to get consistancy in my life. I love the thrill of working out and setting goals and accomplishing them. But then I quit. Its so frustrating. I did a sprint tri last Aug too. I have it in me. I just need to get this weight off and keep things going when I do good.

I've said the same for years (sub "gun" for your knife) and I've finished the third week of c25k... And even more surreal; I'm enjoying it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
