so i am going to AC for my friends birthday on March 9th. I will be 8 weeks out at that point. I figured that would be a good time for me to try drinking. I have not been a big drinker since I graduated from college in May but I am only 23 and do like to go out and have fun. i know people will say "oh you dont have to get drunk to have fun" well i do. i hate crowded bars and clubs and i have a good time when i am drunk. i also hate being the only sober one. i want to be able to Celebrate with everyone. i figured the week before the trip i might try different alcohol during the week to see what upsets my tummy and what doesn't.

so how has drinking been since after surgery? what drinks are your favorite? do you get drunk quicker than before? does anyone actually get drunk and have a good time like they did before surgery?

thanks! and if you're going to be rude, then don't comment at all :)

Check with your surgeon about whether its okay.

And drinking a drink or two is not the same as getting drunk. The 1st part of you post seems to ask about having a drink. The second part is indicative of you wanting to become inebriated. I'd ask my surgeon about having a drink or two and I'd 86 getting drunk altogether.

All I have to say is your going down a road that may or may not become an addiction. But your young and when you realize a sip or two of a drink will get you smashed you may want to do it again and again. It may not but really whats the point of drinking? Other then acting a fool and destroying your liver lol just be careful and get a designated driver.

I started slow. A fancy glass of wine while organizing my closet, a glass while watching a favorite tv show. All of a sudden it was an everyday occurance got up to 2 bottles a night. Also gave me a feroious appetite. Ended up gaining 8#. Being in the health care industry every pang of pain I thought I was getting pancreatitis. Had to stop. Did not like the decisions I made, can't remember conversations I had when I was drinking. It just was not good. I'm on my 3rd full week no alcohol. Feels good to sleep deeply at night, and wake refreshed. I've lost 5 # also. My problem was realized in August. Hoping to stay sober forever and that means for me NO alcohol. Good Luck with what you choose. I never thought I would be a drunk. NO WAY.

Its obvious you dont want a lecture so i will skip the risk speech. If you do drink, be sure to log it with the rest of your food for the day. I personally did the surgery for weight loss... Not just a few pounds, but about 90-100 so alcohol, along with reese cups, just dont fit in my plan right now. You must not be in as bad a shape as me... Lucky you! I guess i will need to skip all the fun for now too and just settle for a thin body. Woe is me... :(

I say if your doctor say its okay go for it ..only you will kno how it makes you feel or if it will become an addiction surgery for me was to be more normal have what I want in moderation because if you subject yourself to a life of oh I can't have that ..it won't be good cause this sleeve is for life and you have to live comfortable w life it's not suppose to be hard your young enjoy your self it take experiences for lessons learned good luck let us kno how it went

I live in ac and am 24 so clearly this a topic for all use young locals and if u tell the bartenders normal you like a drink with less sugars cause u had a stomach surgery ( sometime just say you diabetic ) they will give u a smaller drink and change the price. I ask my doctor and nut they told me do Water and flavored vodka and said I could try it as soon a week after surgery but to expect to be a fast drunk. Also I ask ppl in my local group they said they do one glass of wine and slip it all night . Beer is a huge no and soda drink or red bulls make you sick . Stick to water down drinks with little to no sugar and drink water between drinks and drink slow and u should be fine.

I tried shots, burned way too much.

Cranberry and vodka. Or in my case, double shots of vodka.

I logged every single calorie of my cranberry and vodka drinks in that night, and coming out around 500-600 calories in just alcohol alone was not one of my proudest moments. I had factored the alcohol in before hand and tweaked my diet accordingly but still. I have not had the urge to drink that much since. I suppose I had to get it out of my system. Kind of like my few bites of bread that I no longer crave either lol.

As long as you don't make it a habit, one night if getting **** face wasted isn't going to kill you. If you start hardcore partying, you would face some serious problems.

And yes, I had as much fun as I did before. Though the drunk feeling was a bit different. It's hard to explain. I can't drink as much as I could pre op though. I did keep up very well though, but looking back; other helped me drink my drinks, and I couldn't finish one. I instantly felt the alcohol though. Like I drank a few sips, and under 5 minutes later, I could feel it kicking in. 1 drink later and I was buzzing

I have no idea how you will feel because like someone else said, you seem to be asking two different things. If getting shitfaced is your goal I can't really see that going well for you, but you might tolerate it better than others. A few drinks properly spaced out and uncarbonated is probably OK though.

What is your drink of choice? If it were me I would get a cape cod or something like that.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
