Have a question about previous surgey

Recommended Posts

I was all set and scheduled for my sleeve on 2.20?.2012. I decided to have a colonoscopy before my sleeve procedure and found out that I have fairly large tumor mass that needs to be removed so no sleeve for now. I was more concerned with getting the sleeve than the possibility of having colon cancer but have now realized that first things first. Does anyone know how long I need to wait before I can get my sleeve? I will be meeting with the surgeon on 2.18 with a surgery date on 3.4. I was so disappointed, all the preparation for an entire year and now this.

During the preop testing for my sleeve a large nodule was found in my thyroid, requiring surgery. I had it done and had my sleeve done one month later. The only comparison would be having major surgeries back to back and being put under twice. I do not feel like there was really any negative impact. I guess only your surgeon could really answer your question. Good luck. My mass turned out to be benign - hope yours does as well. Oh... I am wondering how this will impact Hair loss though... I really dont care... My goal was to get my sleeve and let nothing slow or stop it.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope that everything turns ok with the first surgery. I really have no advice other than what I would do myself. I think that given the fact these surgeries both involve the digestive system, I would wait until you are "out of the woods" with the first surgery and have fully healed. Best of luck toy you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May you heal quickly.

I hope you made a typo and didn't put off colon surgery for a year. If you have a mass then change your priorities about what to concern yourself with. Either way you are going to lose weight. Deal with the prospect of cancer first. If all goes well you should be fine for your scheduled surgery date. Please let us know, we will all be thinking of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
