Ok, I'm sure there are about 100+ topics out there on this. I'm on day 1 of Clear liquids before my surgery on 2/22. I have never had Protein shakes before and the one I had today made me gag every sip. I need to hear your recommendations on some great recipes or brands. Again, I'm on the pre op clear liquid diet, so no fruit combinations. Any help would be much appreciated ;)

Thanks All

Ok, I am going to give it to you straight: :)

Yes, most of the bariatric Protein drinks are TERRIBLE! But I assure you I have found the one that tastes great! If you have a Sam's Club and/or costco in your town, head over there. They have Premier Protein shakes in chocolate and vanilla. They are truly amazing! They taste great!

12 premixed shakes for $18.88 at Sam's Club

I promise you and many others on this forum will tell you the same - they do not disappoint.

Good Luck and let me know what you think! :)

I really liked the Atkins shakes, but they don't have enough Protein in them. I've also done Ensure and Pure Protein. Both are good, or at least as good as it's going to get. LOL

I drink and really like the EAS high Protein and carb control shakes. strawberry and choc Carmel are my fav. You can get them at Walmart and most drug stores or grocery stores. Make sure you don't do the muscle building becaus wit has too many carbs.

These are pre made in small drink boxes. During the week I don't have a convenient place to make shakes so I go the easy route

I like the pure Protein shakes. 23 grams of Protein and only 6 carbs.

Yeah... They are good too and available at the grocery and Walmart. Plus, i like the bottle and screw off cap... Easy to drink.

Check the massive shake thread for recipes once you find a brand of shake that doesn't make you gag. I think I went through a dozen different kinds before I settled on one.

I make my own using some recipes from Eggface's blog. I couldn't stand any of the premade shakes and believe me when I say I tried them all. Premiere, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, Atkins, Isopure, etc. Yuck.

There is a recipe for banana nut bread Protein shake, its amazing. I highly recommend it!

These sound fabulous!! Am I allowed to have these shakes on the post op liquid diet....even with all the fruit blended in? Sorry, it may be a dumb question....I just really want to follow the rules to a T. My dr. Office was closed and now I can't find out before Monday. Also, can I drink Zero Vitamin Water? It's not on the list....but it's see through and sugar free ;)

I'm on my preop diet too. Surgery is 2/26. I hate them ALL except the Premier Protein from costco. These are pretty good compared to the other ones. Only kind that hasn't made me gag yet. I'm heading there tomorrow to get some cases!!

I like the premier brand also. But my absolute favorite is Total Lean from GNC. I actually love and enjoy them. I prefer vanilla and strawberry over chocolate which is strange because I prefer chocolate ice cream. I'm weird.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
