I need to drop 25 lbs right now

Recommended Posts

I've gotten everything done pre-op checklist wise, and since I just had an unrelated surgery I was initially told I had to wait at least 3months before getting the sleeve. However the coordinator just called to see if I've lost the 30 required lbs yet-it's been less than a month-so I've only lost about 7. Apparently that 3 month waiting period has been tossed out the window and they are just waiting for me to lose the weight. Help!! How do I get this weight off the fastest?

If you've got a pre op liquid diet, I imagine it'd be about the same we're all doing before surgery anyway. Don't do anything drastic, it may end up hurting you in the end. You can look up several surgeons pre op diet. I believe Dr. Kim has his on his website I think, if you can't find it I can scan mine in to PDF for you. You won't lose it right now, but it'll speed up the process, and shrink your liver all the same.

Do the Pre op diet I will be on. Three 8-16oz protien drinks, 40 or more grams of protien and less than 5 of sugar. The more you weigh the quicker it will come off.

How do I get this weight off the fastest?

Zoie1234

wow - sorry to hear you have to lose this weight in such a hurry so you can have WLS ASAP

drinking drinking drinking only -(best you can do)of the Protein shakes IMO is probably the way to go

i was lucky, my surgeon didn't even make me do a 2 day pre-op diet

didn't have to lose any weight!!!!

truth is, i wish i had lost a few lbs before surgery - the more you lose pre WLS - the better

you will have a little less to lose during your weight loss post sleeve

this hard work that i know you will do - will prepare you for your long road to health and happiness with the help of the sleeve

good luck guy

happy WLS

speedy recovery

Thanks guys I know there's no miracle, and my dr doesn't require the liquid diet pre op either. My insurance requires the weight loss before they can submit my info for approval. I would have made more drastic changes before now if I had known about it.

I put myself on a mostly liquid diet and the weight came off very fast. I did Protein Shakes twice a day and a salad with some kind of chicken or turkey. make sure you are getting a good shake that has very little sugar and lots of Protein (all shakes are not equal). Drink lots of Water and take Vitamin supplements. I also ate a banana a day to keep up my potassium. You can do it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
