kittenkate 186 Posted February 15, 2013 I am about 14 months post op and I've noticed in the last month or so that I am able to eat significantly more than usual. Don't get me wrong, it's still a small amount, but I went from eating 7 or 8 bites and being full to being able to being able to eat 14 or so. Maybe it's just my stomach relaxing, I know the pouch doesn't stretch, but I just want to make sure I haven't damaged it. I'm definitely in the maintenance phase. I can eat anything without it making me sick, so I have to really watch my calories and my exercise. I'm having an EGD done on Wednesday so I'll have an official answer then, I just thought I'd see if anyone had any other knowledge or info on the matter. PdxMan 4,292 Posted February 15, 2013 I know what you mean. I have experienced the same thing. I believe I unconsciencously "eat around the sleeve" as my evil old mind finds ways for me to get back into old habits. I find myself choosing meals that I am able to have more of. Foods that are more "slider", going down easier. But, awareness of this has been my key to getting back on track. Eating the lean Protein first, then the veggies. When I do this, I am back to being able to eat only the 6 or 7 bites.
kittenkate 186 Posted February 15, 2013 So basically I shouldn't be concerned, this is common? Also, you're saying I should put down the cake? Thanks!!

I think we made life long commitments to healthy eating and lifestyles when we made a last ditch effort with removing 85% of our stomach. Always remember this when old habits start to creep back. I know, easier said than done.

Always remember this when old habits start to creep back. I know, easier said than done. Preaching to the choir. I'm not actually eating cake, I was just kidding. Being able to eat more is fine with me, just so long as its not because I did damage to my stomach by eating too much.
Darla5060 68 Posted February 15, 2013 I've noticed the same thing!! But like PdxMan said, when I eat more Protein and veggies, I eat less. And I have been eating cake! :/ Gotta stop that, but I do love that I can now eat a little bit of just about anything. I need to be careful, though - It's too easy to slip back into bad habits for sure.
