mattsbelly 76 Posted February 15, 2013 My surgeon does egd before surgery and will abandon surgery it all is not well....this ever happened to anyone? That seems so stupid. My surgeon scheduled my egd first two weeks prior to my surgery in case there were issues.

Mastiff_mama 171 Posted February 15, 2013 I think they want to make sure the stomach is empty. My surgeon is fellowship trained at Duke University. He train for a solid year was the best of the best at Duke. So he does what he was taught there. I just worry they will take a look and say no! Paranoia! Carrie's Journey 130 Posted February 15, 2013 I had one right before surgery. It was like 2 minutes and everything was fine.
JennyBeth 127 Posted February 15, 2013 There has to be major issues to cause a delay of surgery. I had gastritis (which I already knew about) and a hiatal hernia and the surgeon said it was fine to do surgery. I would've preferred them do both at the same time-why be put out twice and the worst part of any procedure/surgery/childbirth to me is getting the IV to begin with (I HATE NEEDLES!). I even joked with my surgeon that if he wanted to wake me up and say "surprise! You're sleeved!" that would be totally fine by me!
