Sleep Study scheduled... fingers crossed Sleep Apnea, lol!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a busy, busy day. Had all my bloodwork and H Pylori test done, along with my first of 3 multidisciplinary program appointments. Lastly, my visit with the pulmonologist.

Backstory - My BMI is and has been between 35 and 37 for the last 8 years and the only way I will most likely get approved is if I have diagnosed sleep apnea. I do actually have quite a few of the symptoms so it's possible. Just never thought I would be wishing for sleep apnea. Anyway, it's scheduled for next Friday night. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the results? I forgot to ask when I was there.

Also had my Upper GI this morning... yuck!!!

Don't panic if you have it.

I also had to have it in order to get VSG. It came back as me having it. Soon after the surgery, as the pounds started coming off, I noticed I was not waking up catching my breath anymore - and though I haven't had another sleep study I'm 99% certain with my weight loss, I don't have it anymore.

Good luck!

I was just like you -- hoping for apnea lol. I was pretty sure I had it. But alas, I do not have it -- just snoring  I figured it out when they never woke me up to put a CPAP on me. So I didn't have to wait for the results, but I eventually got them. I had to tell myself that it was actually good news because apnea is not good for you, but gee that would've helped with my "borderline" BMI and insurance approval. Oh well. It is what it is. All in all, it was at least a very interesting experience to do the sleep study. It's bizarre to me that someone's job is to stay up all night watching people sleep!

When i had my sleep study a year before even hearing or know about WLS They didnt wake me up to put a cpap on and within days of the sleep study the Dr. called to tell me he was sending over a oxygen machine asap till i could come back in for an other night to find out what pressure the cpap needed to be on then he made an appt. for me to him for the stats. 114 apneas in an hour!! 30 and over is considered severe! So ya they may not put you on a cpap during the study if they see you have it but you can ask the techs in the morning before you leave the center if they saw anything. They can't give you specifics per say.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
