kathyhalls 17 Posted February 15, 2013 For the last week after surgery I have been battling with severe pain in my right arm from the IV spot to my elbow. I wonder if it is infected will be asking my doctor. He is 3half hours from me. I hate to complain but the pain is worse than the surgery! I hate it. I have used warm and cold compress off and on for a few days.
Susie in Lima 320 Posted February 15, 2013 Hope it feels better soon. Good idea to talk to the surgeon at least by phone. It might be worth the trip if he can help it feel better.
outrigger42 58 Posted February 15, 2013 You have phlebitis (inflammation of the vein). If there is any red streaking then you need to be seen. You don't have to see your surgeon for this, your local primary care doctor can take care of it.
Punkin 21 Posted February 15, 2013 My IV hand and forearm swelled up like a Macy parade balloon by night 2 in the hospital! My hand is still swollen! Sorry you're having trouble!
kathyhalls 17 Posted February 15, 2013 The doctor said I have a blood clot in my vein it doesn't need antibiotics that the clot isn't one that can travel to my lungs. He said a warm compress for a few days to maybe a few weeks will cause it to break down and the blood will pass normally through the vein. Ugh so painful
