Hi all! After many years of not wanting weight loss surgery (I'm scared of anesthesia) I've finally come to the reality that this is something I need to do! I have an appointment next week with a fabulous Doctor. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Hi :)

Well on the first appointment they will take all your medical info in... Height, weight, other health issues.

They will go over your options, and tell you about the procedures they do, including how its technically done what is expected of you and any complications that could arise.

They will also go over what other doctors/ nutritionists appointments and tests you will need.

I just completed my psych appt. & have 1 more month of preop diet to go then hopefully will be sleeved in April. The process for me was scary because I've never had surgery at all. But the docs are kind, understanding & ready to answer any questions you have. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info! Typically how long does it take from your first consultation to actually getting the surgery? A friend of my husband said she waited 1 month!! Is that even possible??

It depends on your insurance. Mine had no waiting, I saw a nutritionist and met with a psych person. then i got cleared it was submitted to the insurance, approved

But some insurance company policy's state that you have to wait 3 to 6 months and meet with a Nut during that time before they will consider it..

Also depends on your health and what tests they require...heart, sleep study, etc...

Good point!

I didn't have any other health issues other than being fat! So I didn't need those, but my doctor would of made me do more testing if I had any.

I have very high blood pressure (I'm only 28). I currently have two herniated disks which makes it very difficult to even walk. I have thyroid issues as well.

I can't imagine any if those getting anything but better after surgery! Hell, of you could see how fused I am and how I walk you'd probably think I am nuts for having surgery....every health problem is made better with weight loss! Even cancer feeds off excess estrogen that fat produces! How much better will your back feel if there no stomach hanging and pulling on it? I totally understand the fear and excuses....I've mastered it, but it stops now!

There was no waiting period with my insurance either and from the first appt. with my PCP (I have H M O insurance) it'll be almost exactly 3 months by the time all of my appt.s/clearance tests are completed and everything is submitted for final approval. Then I'll get my Pre-op and surgery date.

Hey!!! I was wondering how you have been doing since you got back home?? It was nice to meet you and your husband, wish it could have been somewhere other than the hospital or the Marriott lobby :). Hope all is well for you!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
