How exciting for you! way to go for not cheating an 7 lbs!! I'm a week behind you. I don't "have to" start my preop diet yet, but I kindof want to, to get this show on the road already. I also don't HAVE TO drink liquids, I was told I can do a low carb diet for one week and hats it. Is it silly that I feel like I need to do liquids because so many of my sleeve friends had to suffer through it and I'm no specialer (hehehe specialer) than they are?

Anyway, one week!! Have you been planning this for a long time!?

It's not silly, but no need for all liquids! Low carb low sugar is the way to go. Make sure you have at least 2 shakes a day. I have oatmeal with my Breakfast shake, veggies with my lunch shake, lowfat Greek yogurt as a snack and grilled chicken and veggies for dinner. sugar free ice pops and sugar free pudding unlimited basically

I have been reading many posts, so many sleevers having to go on a liquid diet pre op. I was told, low carb, low sugar diet only for two weeks prior to surgery. I was never even instructed to drink protien shakes pre op (just post op) I was told this as to strink my liver for surgery. I am not even sure if my liver did strink as the Dr never mentioned it after surgery. I just wonder why Dr's instructed us so differently? It really confuses me. Even tho I was able to eat pre op, my surgery went very well, I have lost 30 pounds in 5 weeks. And feel fantastic. Does anyone know why the difference?

Me neither...30-40 carbs a day 1000-1200 calories...nothing about shakes.< /p>

Congrats and hang in there! I was total liquid shakes for 2 weeks pre-op and 1 post-op, that was the hardest part. It is soo worth it and before you know it you will be post-op and permanently on the losers bench!!!

It probably doesn't matter if u have the shakes pre op, they just wanted me to so I will be prepared for post op. they do want me to continue the Protein Shakes for awhile though. It's a Protein isolate, not concentrate. I was told Protein heals, plus it keeps you full without the fat and sugar from carbohydrates

My surgery is set for 2/20/13 and started pre op diet on the 6th. Having shake for breakfast and lunch, then 3 oz protien for dinner and all the green veggies I want. As of the 12th I had lost 9lbs. Very exciting for me! Can't wait until

Wednesday! Everyone have a great weekend!!

I was low carb also. I did 30 a day. My weight was 231 and on day of surgery 14 days later 212. I was shocked. I am 6 days post op and feel great. Go to Dr today for checkup.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
