UEvrWndrY 60 Posted February 15, 2013 Hi All! I am a newbie to the forums, but I have just been approved for the VSG and have a surgery date scheduled for 3/19. I searched for a thread with this topic, but didn't find anything so I apologize if I am duplicating something that is already posted elsewhere. I am curious as to how long everyone was off work. I know healing times vary from person to person, but I would like to know what everyone's average was. I am in 100% commissioned sales and will only have about a 9 days (spanning a weekend) to take off work and I am wondering if I will even be able to function after that? Input and feedback is appreciated!
angelamarie79 41 Posted February 15, 2013 I requested 3 weeks off from work but ended up going back to work after 1 1/2 weeks. I think I could have gone back after a week though. Good luck on your surgery!!!
Chubarella 87 Posted February 15, 2013 I took 2 weeks off. Today is my first day working. I could have done it a week ago but then again I just sit at work.
T'snewstart 251 Posted February 15, 2013 Seems most people are back to work in 2 weeks. My job requires me to lift 50 lbs so I was off work for 2 months. Best Wishes. Tina
ISleevedIt 380 Posted February 15, 2013 Since I sit at a desk all day, my doctor said I probably could start working some in about 3 -4 days. I'm just not allowed to drive. With a sales job,do you have to lug equipment/products around? My doctor says no lifting of more than 10 pounds. Maybe you can work part-time to begin with then build up to full-time. I have decided to take off 3 weeks of work since I will then be having hand surgery and be out for another 2 weeks. Work prefers I just stay out for 5 weeks so that I heal properly from my surgeries...especially since I have enough sick leave time to cover the 5 weeks. ebonisekim 1,713 Posted February 15, 2013 I took off 6 weeks because my job I walk alot and i couldn't see my self getting all my liquids and Protein in I'm very busy at work I decided I need time to work on me and my new life I wanted to have a plan and routine when I go back but far as how I feel wise I feel like I could go back in my opinion the sleeve is a learning process it takes patience
NancyB 6 Posted February 15, 2013 i am an accountant and I took off a week and 2 days. I was cleared to take 6 weeks off, but I didn't need it. I felt great at the time. I do have to say that it can be a challenge trying to get in the liquids when I am so busy at work. I would suggest 2 weeks if you can pull it off. I wish I would of waited another week or so to go back. Best of luck to you.

The Travel Guru 40 Posted February 15, 2013 I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I do have a desk job with a assistant. lcrutchfield 1 Posted February 15, 2013 My surgery was 2/7/13 and I'm taking 4-6 weeks off so I can get into the swing of my new eating habits before heading back into the office. I'm on short term disability until I get back.
futureskinnypants 193 Posted February 15, 2013 I traveled to sc from NJ for my surg. I had it on weds august 8th and went home one week later on a wednesday, That following monday I went back to my one patient. (i do home health care) And i took another week off from my other patient just because I knew she'd be running me ragged. I was Fine with my one patient ( a child.) But i couldn't lift for a month. If your job isn't too physical you should be okay after a week.
