Hi everyone,

I had the vsg done July 31,2012. I have currently only lost 62lbs with 22lbs being the first week. No matter what I do I seem to have more gains or stalls then anything. Getting really depressing and starting to wonder if I made the right choice. Does anyone have any advice?

I was sleeved Sept 24 at 230lbs and I am now 203lbs so I have only lost 27lbs. Very slow loser as well. My pre surgery diet weight was 252 so if I include that I have lost 49 lbs. My nutritionist suggested excercise and no eating between meals. She also suggested going back on the pre surgery diet. So far all I have done is the exercise 3 times a week. I am going to go back on the pre surgery diet as soon as I talk myself into it. I have heard of a couple of other people who lose quite slow but do continue to slow after stall periods.

It would help us help both of you if you could give us more information, such as what you are eating, how many calories per day, how many carbs, Protein, etc. And more details on your exercise, if any.

We're here to help, but without details, all our help will just be good wishes!

I can imagine it must be incredibly frustrating. Do you log your foods anywhere to keep track of protein/carbs/fat and calories? Have you spoken to your Nutritionist? Maybe they have some insight.

Weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise. I would focus on what you are eating.

Here are the questions:

roughly how many calories do you eat?

How many carbs grams in total a day?

How much processed/packaged foods do you eat?

Are you eating high Protein and protein first?

Do you eat Pasta, bread and rice?

My guess is that these areas are what you need to tweak to be successful. Go back to the original diet from your doctor, eat low carb also.

Are you tracking on MyFitnessPal or the like?

How close do you follow the guidelines of:

  • no drinking before, during or immediately after eating
  • lean Protein first, then veggies, then starch
  • exercise (getting your heart rate up, not just going through the motions)

I have noticed when people are not tracking their food and/or not following the guidelines, their journey is a little more difficult than others.

I dont eat carbs yet so that cant be it. I usually eat around 500-700 calories a day. Mostly Protein with some friuts and veggies. Only drink Water and plenty of it. Exercising daily also. I just dont get it. I have always been a slow loser but man I was hoping this surgery would help more.. Idk. Very depressing and discouraging tho..

I have lost the same as Jordan 254 before preop 244 day of sleeve 209 today 209 back in January as well before that I had a 7 week stall. Did 48 hours of liquid diet to get to 209. I was told today that I have 20lbs of excess skin on my tummy not counting thighs and arms :(. That I can't work that off or hope that 20lbs of skin will go away on its own. Taking off that 20 odd some lbs of skin with a Tummy Tuck makes me 38lbs away from goal. So ask your doc and your nut if they think you might have a large amount of excess skin.

I recently heard of the 5day pouch test.. I had my surgery Oct 24 and am down 64lbs. I started at 275.. I have been having weeks of no loss and then it kicks up again but it can get frustrating. Another tip I was given was plenty of Water and Protein .. Sometimes I realize I'm not drinking enough or I slowed a bit on my Protein and then I will start to see the weight loss again.

I'm struggling with the same issues! I was sleeved nov 13th and I'm down 22 pounds. My body is changing but it's so discouraging I started working out and I try to stay with in 700-1000 calories.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
