Any advice on what to pack? Any advice on what to stock up on? How would you suggest I spend the day?

I suggest you spend the day relaxing and focused on you and your family in order to go in with a peaceful state of mind. On what to pack, my list includes gas-x strips, chapstick, ear plugs, pillow, and an eye mask.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!!!

I'm writing this from my hospital bed at 7:20 AM after my surgery yesterday. I was sleepy, sore, and uncoordinated after the surgery. The surgery was scheduled for 11AM and was supposed to last 3 and a half hours. That seemed pretty accurate. I got to my hospital room at 5-ish. I had trouble with my blood oxygen level in recovery, probably because I was so sleepy and because it was painful to search for body positions

I'm writing this from my hospital bed at 7:20 AM after my surgery yesterday. I was sleepy' date=' sore, and uncoordinated after the surgery. It was painful to search for body positions that allowed for a deep breath.

As the evening wore on I got more comfortable and better able to move around in the bed. The bed rails are handy to use your arms to roll over. My belly had five little holes with bandages on them. It felt like I was sore from too many sit-ups. I've have no Water or anything by mouth since surgery. Sometime this morning they will take me for a "swallow" study. I gather they give me something to drink and then use some sort of x-ray to see if it leaks out of the stitches in my stomach. If it leaks, nothing by mouth til tomorrow. No leak and I start getting Water. Yeah!

More later.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
