I swear the clothing industry is a crock.. I was able to buy size 6 jeans this weekend even though I know at 155 pds I am NO SIZE 6 - but should be size 10 at this weight. Now mind you it was exciting to be in single digits again....but in the back of my mind I knew it was false. I can wear size 6 jeans from Lee, Levi's and Target brands - but designer jeans I'm still a size 8-10. Why can't all the manufacturers get it right... This makes me think that at my heaviest was a not a size 16 but a size 20 in reality???

So I guess when I can get into a size 2 in Lee, Levi's and such - I'll then know I'm back to my original size 6 ..

But i guess the vanity sizing worked - as i was at Kohl's and they are still having a 70% off sale - so as I perused the sale racks I found size 6 summer pants (lightweight pants not for winter) for sale for $7.80 each - so i got 2 of them, and found 5 medium tops as well and only spent $42 total - so their little scheme of making me excited at being in a smaller size worked....I spent my money.

Anybody else having these issues??

Just needed to vent.....

I feel you on that one. My bee with the different sizing is that it makes it so hard to shop online. Even when I do have time to go to the stores I have to try every thing on, even same brands because the cuts and materials are different. Never mind it takes me about an hour just to buy a pair of pants. But hey who am I to complain, I could have worse issues. I'm just grateful that I am no longer in plus sizes ;)

Yeah, whenever someone asks me what my goal size is, I tell them I don't have one. They are so arbitrary.

It is pretty cool to have to try on everything now - before I just ordered the largest size available - usually 3-5x. The baggier the better - anything too close to the body was bad - now it is a whole diffferent ballgame :)

I'm right there with you! I never wore anything that was tight in any way. Now, even though I'm still 65 lbs from goal and still have some rolls (and alot of loose skin!), I'm much more willing to have properly fitting clothes. In fact I'm shopping at Value Village (why buy new until I'm at goal?) and usually buying clothes that are tight, because I know it a month they will fit or even be loose!

And yes, the sizing differences are a joke. Some XL tops are HUGE on my, while others (also size XL) look like clothing for children. No online ordering for me either. Every item must be tried on and future wearability projected against cost invested. Another reason to look forward to goal (plus some plastic surgery).........no more guessing on my sizes once I'm stable!

Well if you think the sizes have changed just go with it. If the size says 6 then you are a six, not a 10. Imbrace the size and love it!!!

I'm just getting into a six now and have about 25lbs to go to my weight goal which makes me thing I'm going to be a zero or double zero :o 8 years ago when I was maintaining 108 I wore a pretty solid 5/6 so I know that the sizes are significantly different now. I'm finding it in both expensive cloths and cheaper ones. My new NYDJ are 6's and I know I'll be down another size or two from there (so I'm buying them on ebay). It's kind of annoying LOL

I never had a size goal because it's so random from brand to brand, but I really don't want to end up being a 0/2...that's crazy in my book LOL

Even if it's vanity, I love the fact that I can wear some 6's and 8's in jeans. Don't like my jeans too snug, my tummy doesn't like it....I doubt I will get below a size 6. SOme of my tops that are medium are a little big now. Not sure I want a small though. Afraid it might be too snug.... :) this is such a treat.....lol

I am only 9 days post op so I am a long way from worrying about this but this thread has answered a question for me. My daughter was over here yesterday with her baby who is just 5 months old. She is doing a fantastic job taking her baby weight off but she still has at least 25 pounds to go. She proudly told me she squeezed into her size 6 jeans today. I just smiled even though I found that doubtful. Size 6 back in the day was obviously much smaller. The last time I weighed 125 pounds, I wore a size 10. So this thread has turned out to be an educAtional experience.

I think that a lot of jeans these days are made with spandex also, so there is a LOT of give..

I have weird sensory issues (spandex, nylon etc feel yucky )so I like full cotton jeans and there is no give.. So yeah I'm still fat and wearing a larger size :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
