Strange happening with my first fill

Recommended Posts

Hi , I went to see my doctor this morning.

He was sort of iffy about doing a fill. I am losing 2

pounds a week but I know how much I can eat.....and I

could really eat alot if I let myself. Especially at

night. He gave me some pointers on my

exercising/walking and a book on exercise.We finally

decided to do a slight fill and combine it with my new

exercise routine to see if that helps my eating habits

at night. He did a 1 1/2 cc fill and it really was

strange. It didn't hurt, but when he inserted the

needle it made a funny popping sound...twice. He sort

of grunted and said he was sorry. I asked what was

that and he didn't say anything. I wondered if that

was a normal sound. Does anyone know?

My second fill made a sound similar, to me it was more like a click. My port is super easy to feel and access, there's no question about the center of my port. But, when the doc put the needle through my skin, it didn't keep pushing down into the port. He had to press and adjust the angle of the needle, then *click* it pushed down into the port. No pain (he gives lidocaine before a fill) but it was interesting, to say the least.

Hope this fill works well for you. Evening eating is difficult. I keep a cup of coffee nearaby to sip on. Thankfully the caffiene doesn't bother me, but you could try Decaf hot tea? Keep popping it in the microwave and sip sip sip. It really does help.

Follow your post fill instructions. That is a large fill in MHO. I can't tolerate big fills so I always cringe when I see something more than 1 cc at a time. I can only do about .3cc at a fill.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks Kathy, It had me a little concerned. I have a wonderful doctor and trust him completely. I felt if something was wrong, he would have told me. What you describe is exactly what I experienced. My port is also easy to feel. He was pushing fairly hard and moving the needle so this is probably what was happening. BTW...that needle was NOT small. I was a little surprised when I saw it.

As for the eating at night.....about an hour after dinner I start on the SF popsickles. Sometimes by bedtime, I feel like I'm floating. :) I'll try the warm tea. That may be good.

Thanks again,

Lynn

I also hear the "click/pop" sound on occasion. It's great that your surgeon listens to you. I have often had question as to whether I should get another fill. I was losing but more so on my own, the band sometime wasn't that restricted. My surgeon also deferred to me and let me make the decision. Often, it was as you did, a little fill at a time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
