Do you still throw up lwith the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Tonight I made baked turkey burgers with spinach an egg and garlic with a few panko breadcrumbs. I made 12 burgers for family and friends. I have been unfilled with my band for over 3 years and I still get these episodes. After 2 bites, I was so stuck and had to run to the bathroom and sat there for 15 minutes salivating and getting rid of the 2 bites of the burger. Does this ever happen with the sleeve? I am in so much misery with this band in me, it needs to come out but will I wind up the same way or will I have some relief from this kind of thing?

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm 2 months post-op and have not vomited once. I dry heaved a couple times in the two days post-surgery, but nothing else.

I haven't had any vomiting events in the 20+ months that I have had my sleeve, but some do if they eat too fast or over eat. But, as I understand it from those who have revised from a band, it isn't like the band (or an RNY pouch) in that our sleeve uses our natural pyloric valve to control the flow of food through the stomach rather than a pouch with a small orifice at the bottom - the pyloris is a lot smarter than a hole in the bottom of a pouch, but you do have to learn how yours works as you heal to avoid any problems.

2 months out and I have thrown up a couple of times, but it was because I ate too fast. Now that I am getting a hang of slowing down and paying attention to when I am full, I haven't had much problem with it.

I vomit and was sleeved in November and dry heave almost every day. BUT I've never gotten sick from eating too fast or too much. No dumping, no sliming. Just vomit from sinus drainage :/

A little tip from one of my nurses: if you feel "stuck" drink a bit of meat tenderizer and Water. About a teaspoon of tenderizer with just enough Water to liquefy it. It breaks up the "plug."

3 months post sleeve and I have not thrown up once- couldn't do it even if I tried to make myself. I even had a stomach flu and the flu and no puking. I did dry heave for 3 days post sleeve, but once I stopped taking pain meds I was fine.

LizV, were did you previously have a band? Having the "heaves" daily is not something that would work very well for me. I am wondering how that happens?

FOR ME-- yes- I Get stuck-- harder to get unstuck-- Nausea, sliming and IF I'm lucky vomit-- the biggest difference-- I could eat and drink and wash it thru kinda-- NOT w sleeve-- if stuck--- not fun and NO drinking around meals ever !! Only happened twice w too fast/too big of bite--- but FOR ME-- yes still that 'negative' there --- its my good mental reminder/ physical punishment-- SLOW down !!

I never had a band. I heave every morning as a result from hunger pains. While heaving isn't the norm, there are several people that feel nauseas when hungry. It's kind of like morning sickness. If I eat something before I get out of bed I'm ok. But otherwise I'm gagging while making Breakfast or anything to eat to stop the huger heaving. It's very awkward.

I haven't thrown up yet and I'm almost 5 months out. I only had one episode that was rough and that was when I ate 1/2 of a creme brulee at 5 weeks out. I didn't throw that up, but it was far too rich and it made me feel incredibly sick.

You really shouldn't be throwing up with the sleeve. If you do, something is seriously not right about what you are eating, how much you are eating or a surgical complication.

I have had my band to sleeve revision 10/2/12 & I have only threw up maybe twice & that was from eating too fast. I did the same as you before. I would always make sure I knew where the closes bathroom was before I sat down to eat, especially if I was at a Restaurant. The sleeve was the BEST thing I have ever done for WL, I'm down 61 lbs in 4 months.

I am 18 months out, and I have never vomited. A couple of times, I have ate too much and had a very uncomfortable sensation in my chest area. Walking helped get rid of it.

I threw up daily with my band. I have only felt like I got stuck twice since I've been sleeved and it passed. I even bent over the toilet like I used to (it used to just come right on out). Not now! I do get nauseated alot though with smells and if I eat certain foods. I think my sleeve is getting used to new foods after being on liquids for 3 weeks. My blockage NEVER cleared itself with the band. I always had to bring it up.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
