Another embarrassing question...

Recommended Posts

We are all adults so I hope I don't get any crap...lol. I had a 'monthly' question for you ladies:

I have the Mirena and my periods have been really, really light until surgery. Now they are 7 days AT LEAST and a little heavier. My hormones are really kicking my butt, too. I can handle all that but the main question I have is if anyone else has experienced a horrible smell as well? I'm very clean and very self conscience so that why I can't understand it??? Please forgive my bluntness...lol. I have to wait for new insurance to kick in so I can't see my doctor yet.

Thanks for the help! And remember...ADULTS. No smart arses please.

I did have an odd smell while on my cycle (started the day of surgery). I attributed to my surgery and hormones because it was several days into the surgery when I noticed it. If it happens next month, I will probably go see my G to make sure everything is fine.

Well' date=' its only been the past couple of months. My surgery date was 9/17.[/quote']

Oh ok. Whenever your insurance kick in, you definitely want to go get that checked out because it could be something else.

Since you can't see the doctor, check out web MD or google any symptoms are. Doesn't hurt to try and see if you able to see what's wrong while you wait..

Hopefully everything is fine!

Try Rephresh. Its a ph balancer. Most odor is due to ph issues, if you don't have any signs of infection.

I think I read on here before that the odors can be attributed to your body being in a state of Ketosis which is fat burning.

Ugh. Mirena is the devil. It did this to me before surgery. And made me lose hair on my head and gain hair every where else! It embedded, I still got pregnant, miscarried, developed cysts. Awful!

My gyn has me on something now with no estrogen. I can't remember the name....but the estrogen can cause these side effects. And too much estrogen also causes Hair loss. I figure that's the last thing we need since WLS can cause it anyway :P

Good luck!

I am in the medical field and i would agree completely with leleboo. Your body is buring so much fat and sugar that its got to be flushed out somehow i personally wouldnt recommend the douches or ph refreshers just because it can throw things off even more and dry you out and make you itch or cause a uti/yeast infection.

I am way past the monthlies, having had a complete hysterectomy 20 years ago and totally off all HRT. And still, in the beginning, I smelled like a goat from the nether region, and no amount of bathing solved it. It did seem to coincide with ketosis, and it went away after the first few months. Everything got back to normal once the very rapid weight loss slowed down.

Its def from ketosis, if you don't have signs if an infection. My obgyn is the one who recommended rephresh...its not a ****** (she doesn't recommend douching under any circumstances bc that actually throws ph off and isn't safe for other reasons). Its a heavy gel/cream consistency with an applicator like monistat and it coats the walls of your vagina and helps balance the ph.

Much like we use biotene when we have dry/stinky mouth from ketosis (or even listerine strips). Some people need to address the problem.

I would call your obgyn and see if they are okay with it if you are concerned about the safety.

I'm only having the odor issue during my period. When I research this I only get general smell answers but mine is strictly related to my period. Can ketosis cause this?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
