No weight loss because I eat too much

Recommended Posts

:heh: OK- I got my band on Sept. 13, 2006. Between the pre and post diet, I have lost about 20 pounds. However, I have not lost since I have been allowed more food which was 6 weeks ago! I seem to want to eat all the time. I have had 2 fills with 1cc each, so I'm at a total of 2cc's. I have another appointment right after Thanksgiving. But this is very depressing! I don't notice any restriction. I know I am drinking too much when I eat, but it is such a habit I'm haing a hard time breaking. Am I the only one in this boat? I want to lose at least another 40 pounds. This seems like a lot to go through to lose 20 pounds!!!!! Also, I'm not a very patient person, can you tell.......

You have some of the answers for yourself. You know you are eating too much, so you know that you need more fills.

You also say that you are drinking to much when you eat, and that totally defeats the purpose of the band. Did you really go through all of this to not work it for something like liquids while you eat? Hum??!! :heh:

I had a hard time with that one too. I don't order any beverages with a meal out anymore. I drink some Water while waiting for my food, then move it out of the way. At home, I don't have anything within reach.

I am going through the same thing right now but I havn't gotten a fill yet...I lost 14 lbs pre-op and another 11 post op but that has been it. I have just been totally watching what I am eating like the band isn't even in there. I WAS drinking with the band but It pushes the food through so I was not full as long, since I have stopped drinking while eating I notice I am definetly a lot fuller longer, maybe you just need to cut out the drinking with meals I know it is hard, but you have come so far, this can be an easy "habit" to break...hang in there this is in us for the rest of our lives the weight will come off.

i had a very difficult time with this as well. i started practicing during my pre-op diet.

it is crucial to your success that you break this habit.

take one drink before you start eating then remove the glass from the table.

you can do this!

I NEVER thought I would be able to not drink with my meals, but somehow I have done it. I just drink lots before and lots about an hour after. You can do it, it's just a matter of retraining yourself. Now if I could just control head hunger.

hello all,

I'm at a stand still right now as well. I was banded sept. 1, 2006 and i'm down about 23, 24 lbs. and i haven't seem to be loosing in the past three weeks. I just recently got off my TOM and i feel completely unrestricted and that scares me. Is anyone familiar with that and can relate?

20 pounds in about 2 months is great!!! :clap2:

We don't lose weight too quickly with the band. If I ignore my pregnancy and the time before I got a post-baby fill, I have lost an average of 6 pounds a month. Doesn't seem like much but it adds up!!! Trust me, your body and your mind are much better able to handle weight loss at this pace.

It is a big struggle at the beginning. Find other things to do besides eat. Identify your main overeating times/situations and make a list of what you will do instead. Also, journal and/or seek therapy if you think your issues are emotional.

Hang in there! It gets much easier!

I'm doing the same thing - eating weirdly, around the band, trying to exercise, trying to eat under 1000 calories a day and stuck at 182...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
