I think I must have the world's strongest steri strips on my incisions and I'm getting pretty nervous because I was told that if they don't fall off before my first post-op appointment (only a day away!), they'll be removed at that time. I have 5 incisions with 2-3 pieces of tape on each and not a single corner has lifted or started to curl up or anything. I tried to pick one if the edges tonight to gauge how sticky they are and I couldn't even PEEL a corner up. I've showered several times with them with no effect either.

So my question is how bad are these going to hurt if my doc removes them on Thursday?? Is there something I can do to loosen them or encourage them to peel up? I don't have much if any tenderness in any of my incisions anymore, but I'm pretty terrified of how ripping these suckers off will feel!

Thanks for any insight (:

Just like a bandaid coming off, you could always put a little baby oil on a cotton ball and use it on the corner of the strip to loosen it up if you are taking them off yourself. Some people just have skin that the adhesive sticks to better than others. I have had some stick on for 10 days on myself. It should not be painful at all.

A few of mine were still on for almost 4 weeks. Baby oil or olive oil might help work them loose.

Wow, mine came off within a few days of surgery.

doesn't hurt at all. My dr. ripped mine off when I went to my first post op appointment because they hadn't fallen off on their own.

So they definitely did remove the strips at my appointment yesterday. The PA giggled and said she had never seen the strips stay so tight on anyone's skin before. Even so it was more of a pull than a rip.. Stung for a moment but overall not a horrifying experience.

I wanted to share this pic though! After the strips came off and I wiped away the tape residue, I was SHOCKED to see that my incisions are barely visible at only 9 days post op.. Is this the norm?! Wow

I spy... 5 incisions.. Somewhere? Lol

Mine look like that. Some I have to feel for because I can't see them by just looking.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
