UTI = No weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! So I'm almost 3 weeks out and was doing great with my weight loss. At 2 weeks I was down 17 lbs. Then I got extremely sick. Horrible back pain and a UTI. Besides the horrible pain, the UTI ha prevented me from urinating and haven't loss any weight. I'm so bummed because I was doing so good. I am on antibiotics (shots and crushed pills) but I can hardly keep down the pills. Anyone have any advice, suggestions, motivation?

If you are not urinating the non-weight loss could be from Water retention. Give it some time for your meds to kick in and you start going to the bathroom again, I'm sure the weight will start coming off again!!

Thank you! Encouragement is exactly what I needed. I don't know what I would do without this network.

I had kidney stones and a uti 7 days post op so I know how ya feel. Meds will kick in and youll start dropping the weight. I didn't get back on scale till I felt better so as to not be disappointed.

The crushed pills are horrid. I had to mix them with a little apple sauce to keep them down.

I hope you get well soon!!!

WEIRD. Are we twins? I am three weeks out and dealing with a UTI from hell as well.

I have also been stalled for the past 2 weeks at the same weight. I hear thats normal at week three though. I was advised to try having a higher calorie day to kick my body out of this stall.

Doesn't it blow? I'm hoping these antibiotics I was prescribed work for me. How are you doing?

Hello I had surgery on December 26, 2012 About seven weeks now.... On week number 3 ,I plateaued didn't lose anything for a week And also on week six..... It is a scary feeling.... I have lost 35 pounds but feel like I should've lost about 40-45 If I had not plateaued out...... I do know I've lost a lot of inches I went from a size 24 to pick extra-large in a skirt....

My doctor said I was not taking in enough calories (I was currently taking in 300 to 350 in )..... Wants me to get it up to 700 cal.... This was two weeks ago.... And still not at 700 cal but I am now at least a 550-600 Day.... This week I lost 3 1/2 pounds pounds.... So maybe he knows what he's talking about LOL

I'm still working on attempting to consume Water. But I feel like the UTI makes me retain Water and I stray away from it. Might be in my head though :/

Kidneys are filters, if they are inflamed , they don't work as well so you are probably holding Fluid. After surgery, we aren't drinking much so the body knows to hold onto the fluid it has. The bladder doesnt empty as often so germs grow freely. Once we are well hydrated, body says ok now pee. Fun fluid facts!

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
