I'd suggest checking out the Self Pay/Mexico Forum. There are so many experiences posted there.

Congrats on your further surgery'

You could do a search for your particular doctor in the search engine and read their experiences as well.

I went to Tijuana last week and Dr Garcia was my surgeon. I found out about him from this website and read experiences of his patients and checked his background out. I would recommend him to anyone, as his team were very welcoming, hospitable, and knowledgeable about the procedure I was having.

Good luck!

I considered Jerusalem for about 30 seconds and then read too many poor reviews and I did not feel confidant that they could handle an emergency... I also chose Cabrera/valenzuela at MiDoctor, I did read one bad review of MiDoctor (the person said toilets didn't flush, the nurses were inattentive, the smell of food from the kitchen was inappropriate for bariatric patients to have to smell, nurse couldn't draw blood properly, the hospital was too small and the person wound up walking out of the hospital and going to a different place. ) the one bad review just seemed such a contradiction to all the glowing reviews I've read about people experiences at Mi.... Now Jerusalem on the other hand, I've read threads with five or six people all saying the same negative things about it.

My experience at MI. Hospital was the best I could have asked for, I'm do glad I chose them. I had a friend that was sleeved at Jerusalem and she begged me not to go there ( she didn't have to beg hard)

As the other posters have responded, you definitely want to view our Mexico Surgery Forum. There is a great deal of valuable information there. Find other members who have used the surgeon you are considering and ask them to share their experiences with you. Knowledge is powerful and so important when making a decision such as this.

I used Dr. Fernando Garcia at Mi Doctor in Tijuana on 1/19/13. The hospital was so clean and the nurses were very attentive and I always felt safe. I would definately reccommend Dr. Garcia and Mi Doctor Hospital! They were great!

Had surgery in Mexico on Feb. 4 - it was great. I selected a different doctor and was very pleased with the treatment and outcome. No issues with travel or language barriers. Just do a LOT of research and talk with the surgeon if you can - be sure what you will get and what to expect.

Just remember, that while cost is important when you are self-pay, don't sacrifice quality, skill and expertise for price. Your body and your life deserve the most qualified surgeons with the best facilities.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
