Surgery 2/22....Scared and Excited

Recommended Posts

Surgery is set for 2/22 and I'm really nervous. I don't want to focus on all the negatives that could happen, but my anxiety is taking over....any other people out there feeling this way? :o

I think the majority of us 'sleevers' were nervous to some extent. I was actually fine and dandy and excited up until 2 days before hand. Then I got super nervous and anxious. I actually went and hugged my good friends and told them all how much I loved them (just in case of course lol). But the hospital told me I could take a xanax prior to showing up to calm my nerves and once they put me out, I woke up sleeved :) Nerves are normal but there isnt one thing I regret about getting sleeved except that I didnt do it sooner. Congrats to you! 10 days and youll be on the 'losers bench'.

I'm not nervous yet, but am sure I will be as the big day gets closer. Right now I am in insurance limbo. If they come back with my approval I could be sleeved as soon as March 5th. I need this so bad that all I have done is syke ,myself up for he big day.

Congrats to you Bunny for the awesome job so far. The rest of us will be with you shortly. :-)

I'm scheduled for 2/26 and feel the same way. Excited but nervous! It's a big lifestyle change. Hang in there, I'm sure our nervousness is all for nothing :)

Hi, my surgery is 2/20 and I'm getting so nervous about it too. I'm so afraid something will go wrong or that I won't be able to lose the weight. I have a million thoughts running wild in my head. Like others have said, I think it is normal. Good luck to you,and me on our new journey.

I was nervous up until the time I was put under.... Then afterwords a little depressed. I never realized how much food had been a part of my life till after the surgery. So I had some ups and downs the first week afterwords..... I am definitely getting better though and I am very glad I did it. I think we all go through pre-jitters when opting for any type of permanent surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
