Beginning to hate food.

Recommended Posts

I am so over food. I feel like I think about it more now than before my surgery.

It takes forever to eat such a small amount that I'm over it - shakes would be so much easier but I know that's not advisable by my NUT.

How about you?

I HATE eating! I would much rather drink my Protein and calories. I even hate watching other people eat. Geesh! I used to LOVE food, but now I don't really care if I ever see it or taste it or smell it!

I hate the feeling that eating gives now... I'm kind of getting over it now though.. I'm 6 weeks out and hated the thought of eating for weeks 2-5 probably...

I'm 11 weeks out, and I have been where you are. I made a similar post, sick of food, and getting most of my Protein from shakes, too. I was told by many members here that it is a phase that will pass. It took a month, but now I am over my lack of desire for food. It is not as I remember it, but I can enjoy a tiny meal now without feeling like it's a waste of time and space! Hang in there. Get your fluids and protein in, and you will succeed:)

Hi Everyone,

I want you to know I know exactly how you are feeling. I had sleeve surgery in 2008 and it will get a lot better as time goes on. I still feel that most people who have NOT had any kind of WLS eat large amounts of food and then inhale it when then eat--you have watched them eat ALL this food. We as a society are always served large amounts of food at each meal. We do NOT need to eat this much food and that is how we became fat. So, I know it is hard right now, but it is a blessing that you can't eat a lot of food right now. I remember thinking to myself "what in the world have I don't to myself? LOL, now I wouldn't change one thing about how I am and how I eat.

You will get to a place that you can eat regular healthy food and enjoy it and you will become used to eating small amounts of food and feel very satisfied. Two signs to look for to know you are full and I found these strange, but they are useful to know. 1. my nose would start to run. 2. I would get the hiccups--when you can eat more food, watch for these 2 signs they will be helpful to you. I never consider myself on a diet now, I have made lifestyle changes. YES, I have a treat or some desert now and then, just NOT every day and I have a small amount of it and it satifies my need or want for it. So, just take it one day at a time, it will get a lot better. You will look back on this and think this is the very best thing I have ever done for myself.

Hugs,

Suzanne

I look at it from a different angle. I have convinced myself to be happy that it takes so long to finish a meal. I use to eat so much and even though I hated eating, my hunger would just drive me to eat and eat.

It makes me happy when I go to a buffet with my friend. He piles his plate high and I fill about 1/2 my plate (and I can't finish it!) I am so happy that I can't finish that plate and don't have to go back for 2nds.

I have more time to talk and people watch. I use to never look up and sit in the back. Head down, hunched over the plate, just thinking about what I was going to eat on the next trip to the buffet.

Now I eat a little here and there and watch the freakshow file past my table.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
