HI everyone! I start my pre op diet in 2 weeks, and I'm a little worried about what Protein shakes I should have. My Dr. says 2 Protein Shakes daily and a salad with light dressing and chicken. Can you all give me some examples or share some of your pre op diet meals. What shakes are tasty? Help!

Thanks all

Stephanie

My nut said any Protein is fine...but it MUST contain at least 1gram Protein for every 10 calories.

Example my current Protein powder has 110 calories and 24g protein. It would need to have a minimum of 11g, so it passes the test.

Otherwise, I am just restricted to 1100 calories a day. 3-4 shakes and 1 small meal (like lean cuisine or healthy choice). If I was over 5'4" I would get 1200 calories a day.

I tried lots of options but the one I really like is the GNC shakes. chocolate is my favorite. You are lucky that you get to eat salad and small meals! I was on total liquid for two weeks. Good luck to you.

I am on the 2 week diet also and I have chosen Slim Fast which has 190 caloris and 10 grams of Protein and gucerna shakes. I don't know what is recommended but I figured this was as good as any for the pre-op 2 week journey. Good Luck!

There's a thread in the food section with a TON of shake ideas, I would suggest looking there to find some things to experiment with. My favorite thing was to make a vanilla shake using blueberry tea, with blueberry tea ice cubes, and then add in about 1/2c of frozen blueberries. It was rather tasty.

Slim Fast shakes are pretty high carb. What guidelines were you give for pre-op?

Mine told me the two shakes and 1000 cal total for the day. So 1000 including the shakes. So really chose healthy stuff that fits under that mark and I'm sure it would be fine. The main idea is that you lose weight and shrink the liver so stay away from crabs and sugars.

That seems really low on Protein and high on calories. You can get twice the protein and less cal using an EAS or similar shake. Similar price too if not a bit cheaper.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
