sudden symptoms: diarrhea/nausea - please help

Recommended Posts

Sorry for TMI. I had my first bowel movement post-op this morning. Since that time I have had diarrhea 4 times. I woke up after an hour of sleeping and had the 4 attack of diarrhea. About 30 minutes later, I am having a sudden attack of the first nausea I've had since the first day after my surgery. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I took a promethazine. Waiting for it to work.

Diarrhoea is normal, better than Constipation if you ask me! The only thing you should be worried about is dehydration! Try Gatorade until the diarrhoea eases off :)

As for the nausea I don't know? I've been on meds for that since I got out! Are you on any meds for nausea or heart burn?

As for the nausea, are you on pepcid? Hope you feel better soon, if you don't plaese call your doc so they can re-assure you:)

You might also think about trying lactose free milk. Some people develop a lactose intolerance post surgery. I have a definite reaction to my shake powder mixed with 1% milk, but not the milk mixed with Unjury chicken broth or nectar fuzzy navel so i think it is the powder, not the milk. It is like it is too rich. No prob with premixed shakes either so hoping it is not a lactose intolerance developing. I am, however, picking up lactaid milk today and switch out for a few days to test it.

I had loose stools for more than 4 weeks post op. I was surprised by that a little, especially that it lasted so long. Now, I've gone the other direction, and it's more unpleasant, lol! I was thinking I might be lactose intolerant, or that this was going to be permanent, but it wasn't. Hang in there!

As for the nausea - probably so also normal. If meds don't work, call the doc.

Staying hydrated is key. Keep sipping those liquids. The first few weeks are certainly the hardest, and some days are better than others, but it does get better. Good luck :)

I had very frequent and loose bowel movements for three weeks. I was so relieved to have it over! Never had nausea though.

Kati I was sleeved the same day as you and I woke up to my first major bout of nausea too! I'm laying on the couch barely able to sip Water bc my stomach feels so weird right now. I didn't get any prescriptions for nausea but I did get little blue pills for stomach spasms so I took one of those to see if it'd help.

Probably can't rule out that nasty Norovirus that is going around. I would let the doctor know if it was bad enough that I feared dehydration.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
