You can catch up on the walking dead and duck dynasty while running on the treadmill or in my case the elliptical :P

Well when I do the elliptical I catch up on the same shows....plus Justified.

What is justified about? I find watching tv distracts me a bit while running on treadmill so I day dream instead with muse pumping in my ears. On elliptical I can watch tv and usually have been watching fringe seasons for the last couple months. I am on season 3 now.

I had my first C25K last night. So day 1 week 1. When I was leaving the house to go, my husband said he looks forward to cheering me on at a 5K race. Sweet.

It went ok, better than I had thought it would. Of course, I'm the oldest in the group - and 4 of the 9 folks are runners who wanted to get back into running - no pressure. I am doing this as my personal journey - just like the journey of the sleeve.

Driving home after class I felt tired (we also did 30 minutes of strength training) but empowered. The body might be reaching 60 but the drive/determination/commitment/??aspirations are all much much younger.

I think there is just one other WLS post op in the class, the rest are hospital employees.

I love this.

Swamp People! :) I can watch shows if I'm walking on the treadmill, but haven't tried it running. My TV is off at an angle and I don't think watching & running would work for me (I'd look like one of the folks in the video posted recently!). However, I do read while I run on the treadmill... nothing like a little brain candy to pass the time!

I do run at a small incline (1%) and it's pretty flat where I am so there is no "weather" to factor in!

Butterthebean - now you're making me feel guilty... guess I'll have to drag my fanny outside again... soon! ;)

W6D3 done! I can't believe I ran for 22 minutes, ok I jogged... Ok, it was more like a brisk shuffle, but I DID IT!

And Butterthrbean... I even did it OUTSIDE! No Doubt and Billy Squier really helped at the end.

Happy Saturday folks!

22 minutes. That's awesome.

I think once you're at that stage it's official. You're a runner.

It's about a federal Marshall in very rural Kentucky. Kind of a cop show....but the main character kinda has that young Clint Eastwood cool factor.

Checking in.....week 1 day 2 in the books. A question, or maybe two. Does it get easier as you continue with your training?? I keep thinking about the day I can jog (wog) and feel like I'm working but not having my knees hurt so much. Tell me that as I build up strength & endurance things feel better.

AND, yesterday I went for a very brisk walk outside with my husband - we have a foot and a half of snow so I had to wear my snow boots, which gave me blisters between my large toe and the next one on my left foot. I bandaged them up before my training at the Y this am, towards the end of the session I could feel pain from the blisters. I powered thru doing a lot of self talk. Did some errands and when I got home and took off my sneakers I looked like Curt Schilling with a bloody sock!! What do you all suggest to use to cushion the blisters? I can't stop C25K training because of some stinking blisters......

I had my surgery in Dec (3rd) and prior to was diabetic. I'm not on any more meds - but my med team considers me 'in remission' with my diabetes. I'm careful about foot care. Thank you all!!

I also like to think that as I continue to lose more weight that less weight on the old knees.

Yes it gets easier as the weight comes off. The movements will be more graceful and mechanical, like a fine Swiss watch. As for trouble with blisters, try using running socks. They are more expensive (mine are 12 dollars a pair), but will cut the friction to zero because of material and fit. Once you start to really get into running, as some of you are at that point, go invest in a fitted pair of running shoes. These will cost upwards of 100, but will really help with maintaining good running form and prevent injury.

It definitely gets easier. And if you're like me, you won't notice it happening. You'll just wake up one day and realize how easy it is...and it didn't used to be. It's kinda like the feeling of waking up and realizing you've put on a few pounds....you don't see it happening, but one day the realizations hits you in the face.

And as for those blisters, I'd recommend two things....a generous application of KY jelly between your toes and all over your feet if need be...and quit wearing those snow boots. They clearly do not fit you properly.

Oh yes....here's a pic of my high tech running socks and my high tech running shoes. Never had a blister but last weekend I kicked a rock the size of a lemon with my big toe. That smarted.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
