Butterthebean 8,146 Posted December 23, 2013 What do you do for energy? I just saw my nutritionist last week and she told me to cut back on carbs. She told me to load up on a Protein Shake before my run. I'm also in a stall with my weight loss and she says it's because of too many carbs. There's a great book called slow burn by stu mittleman. The guy ran 1000 miles in 11 days. I've talked about his book before. In it he lays out how to run long distance without needing a lot of carbs, especially the high sugar/starchy type. All the Pasta, potatoes, bananas, energy gels and drinks that most runners eat...he doesn't eat ......and I try not to when I'm being disciplined. He shows you how to run in the fat burning zone so you don't need carbs before a run. It's worth a read for those of us runners who don't want to or can't eat a bunch of carbs. My pre run meal is usually Protein and fats. Boiled egg and almonds is my normal meal. My wife and I ran our half marathon yesterday and while I had my usual....she ran it fasted with no problem. The carbs aren't necessary for longer slow runs. Now short sprints and all out efforts are another matter.

I don't overdo the food because my stomach will get queazy. Sometimes I'll drink half of a Premier Protein and then the other half after I finish.

mistysj 1,940 Posted December 25, 2013 That sounds amazing! How cool that you are coupling a holiday with exercise. For me it used to be seeking out all the local food to try. 2 LisaT678 and deedadumble reacted to this

LisaT678 225 Posted December 26, 2013 Getting back on track. The last two days I haven't exercised and my eating was high in carbs! Thinking about doing Protein Shakes only for a couple weeks to get back on track. Anyone else ever do that? 2 erp and Huntingnurse reacted to this

I'm doing the same thing, but only doing the Protein shakes for a few days to get the carbs out of my system. My Garmin just got delivered, so I'm going to go for a run in a little bit. 1 LisaT678 reacted to this

mistysj 1,940 Posted December 26, 2013 Gentle reminder that there are other places to talk about nutrition and diet plans. This one is about running! If you like, we can split those last few posts off into a new thread on a forum where they will get more attention and answers. As for running, I ran 6k this morning before it got hot, and I'm feeling great. The day is new and my run is finished. Don't you love that!? 1 Butterthebean reacted to this
scarlet333 386 Posted December 27, 2013 Up to day 3 of week 6 which calls for 22 minutes straight run time. Yikes! I know I can do it since I did the 20 minutes but am beginning to feel like a real runner. 3 LisaT678, mistysj and crowsnestmama reacted to this
