Next to last run for Couch to 10k completed -- 55 minutes of running. Friday will be the last day at 60 minutes straight. Newbies' date=' 14 weeks ago I was one of you. If you are wondering whether you can really manage it, I say you can. It's ok to go slow, even really slow. Speed will come with time. I'm still slow. I only finished 8k in the 55 minutes. Who cares? I'm lapping everyone who is on the couch! And no, running probably won't make you drop loads of weight. But it does create even more of a calorie deficit and it is so good for your heart, lungs, and mood![/quote']

Way to go Misty! I remember when you first started and it's amazing to see how far you've progressed.

I'm a C25K graduate as well, now running 5 miles straight. I started in February and did a 5K interval run in May, got sick in June, started back at week 3 in July, and finished in August. I've been adding 1/2 mile to my long run every week and following a modified beginner Hal Higdon 1/2 marathon training plan. It took me a lot longer to finish because of illness and a knee injury. The best advice I have is to stick with it. Repeat days or weeks if you need to. Also, some runs just suck. I had one of those last night, I was aching and my knee was hurting and I felt so sluggish. You can let bad runs get you down, or you can go out there and try again. I'm going to ice my knee all day and get out there tomorrow and try again.

I am also super slow, but every week I get just a few seconds faster. The 5K I ran/walked in May was 45:07 (and OMG, I was 530 out of 560 runners!), but the 5K I ran this weekend was 36:22 and I was 555 out of 770 runners! I also don't worry about speed. I run slow enough so that I can carry on a conversation and slow enough that I know I can finish the distance that I have planned for that day. My 5 mile pace is about :30 to :60 slower than my 5K pace.

At the end of this weekend's 5K when I looked at my time and saw it was in the 36's I started tearing up. I was hoping I would be in the 38's. What a high!

Did my run today but there's a lot of head games going on. I just keep repeating to myself' date=' "never give up, never give up". Even if I never run a while 5k without walking I'm still moving and my body & family will thank me for it when I'm 100 and healthy and alive!![/quote']

I still have to play those head games, especially on my long runs. Having really good music to listen to helps me get through it. I also tell myself, "just another 1/2 mile and you can stop" and then when that one's over "just one more" and I keep repeating that. I'm also fortunate that I found a good running buddy that pushes me (and I push her). Having someone there and a planned mileage makes me want to keep going.

Do you run on a treadmill or outside? I find that I have to psych myself up a lot more on the treadmill.

I do mostly a treadmill. I've been too self conscious to take it outside for the most part. I have gone outside a few times.

I finished the Couch to 10k! In 14 weeks I went from running for one minute straight to running for 60 minutes straight! I went from a total distance of 1.5 km in a workout to 8.7. I'm still "obese" so if you are thinking you can't do it? Think again.

Next goal is to get to 10k distance. I will keep adding 5 minutes a week until I do. Then I will work on speed to trim the minutes back off.

After a two week vacation I'm finally back on the run. It's amazing how fast your endurance can go down. I love reading everyone's post. You're all very motivating and encouraging. Keep up the good work!

I had to take almost two weeks off cuz I had a wart cut out of my heel. Plan on restarting on Sat and will repeat W8D1 and hope I can get thru it. So close to finishing App!

I finished W8D1, a bit sore, don't think I can run today. Was hoping I could get finished before surgery tomorrow. Sick kids and preparations got in the way... Hopefully I won't fall to far back after cleared in 6 weeks

Finished week 6 day 3 today :) Yay...22 minutes of jogging! Question for you guys. I've been doing about 95% of my workouts on the treadmill with a 1% incline. My first 5k is on November 30. We will be moving and should be in our new place by Nov. 16 and it's a great neighborhood for walking/running. I'm planning on doing my workouts outside on the weekends but since I have been getting up super early in the morning to run on the treadmill, I enjoy doing that and I know I'll actually get it done that way. Am I setting myself up for failure for my 5k since I haven't been doing it outside? Maybe I'm thinking too much about it....

I do most of my training on the treadmill. Your not setting yourself up for failure, just don't plan on being as fast as you are on the treadmill. It is different and it is harder outside. Just slow your pace down and be consistent with it. Walk when you need to, run when you can, push yourself as far as you can. You've got this!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
