Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

Moved my training this AM to outside to get off the treadmill and out of the air conditioning. Backed up to Week 4 day 1. It was 81 degrees at the time we ran. My wonderful, beautiful, super fast, future Olympian daughter ran 4 miles in the time it took me to run 2. But no ambulance or paramedics were needed. So I will take it.

Great job John. Running in the heat is doable, it just takes time to adapt to the heat, extra hydration and generally you go a bit slower. It helps being young as well.

Okay, I did it! Thy said I have neutral feet- or is it A Neutral stride-and wanted me to have a neutral shoe with a slight 4 mm drop since I'm running and walking both. (I wanted a light, more minimalist style) I ran outside in a few pair and ended up with the saucony contana 2. Super cute!

I liked newtons okay too but prefer the slight cushion saucony has.

According to their camera I cross my right foot over in front of the left a little and I would t have known to watch for that had I not gone. Good to know.

Crossing my fingers that I still love them after tomorrow's AM run and that I figure out these knees. :)

Well that's the update. Here's the shoe.

I absolutely love the way they look and feel so far. The true test is a whole run. Can't wait til tomorrow morning. I have to thank fiddle for helping make this possible! You rawk!

Know what I DON'T like though? The fancy running socks she sold me. I don't like that super tight band on my arch and hated how they pulled my big toe over into the to others. Not good for the bunion.

This here is what's causing all the trouble. It's not "just a bunion", my whole foot is screwy

My pic disappeared somehow so here's an X-ray of someone else's foot. That's what mines like.

Those are beautiful! I'm jealous that you fit in cool women's shoes! :) I've got big ole feet and have to wear men's Brooks, which don't have any cool styles.

I'm still waiting the 'go-ahead' to start running again from my sports medicine doc regarding my knees. I've been walking a LOT. While going to the last few classes of my C25K class - I was walking so fast that only one of the runners passed me. The others did the walk/run gradually all run sessions, but never went past me on the track. It was a 1/2 mile track.

Although I felt badly that I couldn't run, I felt pretty good that I was able to walk at such a fast speed.

I'm hoping that I get the OK soon - physical therapy continues and I feel so much stronger. It is motivating to read this thread - keeps me focused.

I am so happy you like your new shoes enough to even "want" to keep going (they look really snazzy too), even in the presence of a little "pain." is that not the way it always is? We would never achieve success if we lacked the tools to motivate us to keep going when the going gets tough. For example, I am a violinist and would easily give up and not practice if I hated the sound coming from my violin. I play on a high quality professional instrument so even my mistakes sound good and it is enough for me not to lose motivation along the way. One thing you want to be careful of is to listen to your body and make little changes in the feedback loop that are going to be positive for you. It would be easy to develop the wrong habits to compensate incorrectly in the presence of bad results. A good tool will help you compensate correctly and not develop bad habits.

I'm proud of you!

I'm starting w3d1 and nervous about jumping from 1.5 min max run to 2.5. Who came up with this program anyway? I keed, I keed.

Thank you. I'm proud of me and you too. We haven't quit and we're believing in ourselves. That is 3/4 of the battle. It's always about the head game. ????????

I was being silly. It seems Jeff to jump from 1.5 to 2.5 but the walks are longer too. C25k seems pretty ingenious.

Week 8 Day 1 done (second attempt). Foot is almost pain free. Really felt good to let it roll this AM.

Tomorrow, Week 4 day 2 for the outside run.

Ok checking in... I'm STILL doing week one.

I'm still thanking the blue skies above every time the 30 minutes are up and I'm still alive and kicking.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
